.xxx - Your Thoughts

I haven't posted here in a while, but a recent post on TechCrunch made me come back here.

According to TechCrunch, the .xxx domain extension has been approved by ICANN. As you may have guessed, .xxx is for porn sites.

What do you guys think about it? Do you think there will be significant adoption of this extension? Will entrenched, established players (Vivid, BangBros, etc.) be willing to switch over, or will they prefer to use it as a secondary address?

Also, what do you imagine the scenario 6 months from now, from a domaining perspective?

Like most new TLDs, there will be a huge rush on them in the beginning - they'll claim it's going to beat out .com, .net, .org, etc. but a year later we'll see massive numbers dropping. But some will go on to make a good amount of money (sex.xxx, cam.xxx, chat.xxx, movies.xxx, etc..).

I'm sure we'll also see the corruption we've seen with some recently launched ccTLDs, too.

I have been staying away and will stay away from new TLDs and the LandRush. Back when they introduced .Asia I registered some of the best and top notch
single word domains. I never got any of them. So I think it is ridiculous. The introduction of new TLDs is only for the registries to make money and nothing else.
They let people register domains, then you tie up your money for a long time and then they auction off your domains for Top Notch dollars and make money for
themselves and no body else. Maybe some top guys with deep pockets end up making good money but most of it is about registries to make money.

I registered domains like

Forex.asia
Loans.asia
Homes.asia
Vacation.asia
Gold.asia
Diamond.asia
Colleges.asia
Car.asia
Technology.asia
Pharmacy.asia
Computer.asia
Computers.asia
VisitAsia.asia
Marriage.asia
Oil.asia
Doctors.asia
CheapTravel.asia
Medicine.asia
CellPhone.asia
CellPhones.asia
LapTops.asia

and 50 others like those and I never got ONE Damn domain to keep in my account. All were auctioned off and combined value of the sales were way over a Million dollars. I am so pissed that CellPhones.asia and LapTops.asia are still sitting in my account and I still have not gotten refund on them after almost 3 years of pre registering them and while the domains have been auctioned off at least 4 -6 months ago for thousands of dollars each. I am so freaking pissed at GD because they have not refunded the money after sending so many emails and talking to my account exec a few times. I had invested few grands pre-registering over 50 single words category killer domains. I think it should only be fair to let the first pre registrant/s keep the domain after the land rush.

So if that is all the registeries want to do is auction off the domains then they should not allow people to pre register the domains and say they are available to pre register. It should be first come first serve but unfortunately it is not. The domainers end up investing their money which is tied up untill they get a refund because the domains have been auctioned off or another case can be they get the domain (which is most likely not going to happen unless it is a crapy domain). It is totally unfair game.

And as far as .xxx goes the same thing will happen. And since .asia I have seen it many times with so many TLDs being introduced. A total unfair corrupted game the registery/ies play to fill up their bank account!
