Hello all,

I would appreciate the opinions of the wise, on a couple of nice .co.uk’s. I realise opinions on .co.uk's are very subjective, and will vary depending on whether or not you live in the UK. But here goes anyway...

45s.co.uk
BestRates.co.uk

All feedback much appreciated.

Cheers,

Syd.

bestrates.co.uk is quite a nice .co.uk - probably around £100 - £250 to an end user.

Don't see too much value in 45s.co.uk as it would be for a very niche market.

45s.co.uk

Here 's a reaction from the US:

45s are the "old" kind vinyl records and the ones sold (or traded) at this (future) site are imported from the UK. 45;s of course are the records with two songs only, one on each side.

I understand vinyl has made a comeback among audiophiles and esp. dj's and "import" records carry some clout here in the US even to this day. I can see some folks from the US finding this name interesting.

I have 45s.net. My primary business and source of income is music collectibles. Though I no longer collect vinyl, thousands do and 45s are very popular with this crowd. They are also big with owners of vintage jukeboxes. The problem is that this is a collectors field populated by small companies. There are no large corporations that would likely need the name. Still worth a few hundred to the right vinyl dealer though. There are several who specialize in 45s only.

Cheers for the feedback.

Regarding 45s.co.uk, I agree, there are plenty of 'vinyl junkies' out there; but as mentioned it is a relatively small marketplace ~ not big business. So the possibility that the name may have some appeal in the US (for collectable UK vinyl exports) is interesting, and something that did not occur to me.

I was reading an old thread on this forum concerning the ranking order members had placed extensions (in order of potential value), & I was surprised to see that many ranked .co.uk's below .biz & .info. Is this the case in your opinions? Obviously I am bias because I live in the UK, where most (not in the domain game) would put .co.uk only below .com; due to the fact that most of the UK's big sites (BBC, StreetMap, Guardian...) promote their sites as .co.uk's. Granted this fact does not have much impact on the US market (or does it?), but do you think that a .co.uk name would have more value than say a .org in the UK?
For example, Duke ~ how would you compare the value of 45s.net & 45s.co.uk?

I have a few nice .co.uk’s, and related feedback would certainly help me assess their value.

Cheers,

Syd.

At present .co.uk is a more valuable extention than either .biz or .info as it is an established market - approx 70% of the major UK companies have a .co.uk as their primary web address.

I'd be very interested in where other members see the value of .co.uk, but broadly my experience is:

Premium v. gernic one word names : $10k - $20k
generic one word names : $1k - $3k
two word common business phrases : $350 - $750
useful two worders (like bestrates.co.uk) : $100 - $300

These prices are to end users (there is almost no market between resellers for .co.uk's). Another problem is that although end users are often willing to pay reasonable prices there aren't that many of them as .co.uk's are only useful to UK firms - so u can end up sitting on the names for a while.

Syd - we are very myopic here in America. .co.uk never even enters my stream of thought. That does not many in any way it is not a great extension. It just means that many of us on this side of the pond are not cosmopolitan enough to consider the value of certain TLD's in other parts of the world. I'm sure we need to become much more aware in that respect.

However, for me to have 45s.co.uk would seem to limit me to the UK market, so I think 45s.net would work better. Incidently I am not using the name myself and have it for sale. I have a different music .com and we sell world wide. As for .org I only own 1 - bought yesterday. I don't think those are good for business either here or over there. I have no .biz or .infos. The jury is still WAY out on those. I have already gambled away enough money on .coms and .nets!

Duke:
A nobleman with the highest hereditary rank, especially a man of the highest grade of the peerage in Great Britain.

Obviously cosmopolitan enough to use a british title.

Well HyperiOn, I do have British ancestry, but I think we mostly just cleaned out the Duke's stables. I actually took the name from an old R&B song I really liked!

I am sure I am missing the boat on .co.uk but as I noted, I am hemorraghing enough money on the two extensions I've been buying!

hehe

.co.uk doesn't appeal to me either because I live in .co.nz territory.

Good luck with the haemorraghing.

:)
