i dont think he is limited to a luxury type site - not all the products/service etc are going to be 5 stars - thats just the upper limit (or at least what i first thought)

i would think it would be better if it was a full package with the: five star, com, five stars , com, 5star,com in the mix.

also - din't top10,com just sell a little while ago for over $1 million (i think)

Don't worry, I know what I can do with it and did not make the investment blindly nor am I here to find out if I made a good purchase or not. I was just interested to hear the communities opinion.

I was actually hoping someone would answer this part of my OP "is there a good domain name appraisal service someone can recommend to me?". I would like to have a few domains appraised so I can assign a general worth to some of my portfolio for financial reasons.

Thanks for the comments, always interesting to see the varied views of domainers.

There is no such good thing as a good domain appraisal service. Appraisals are all subjective and therefore, without any merit.

"is there a good domain name appraisal service someone can recommend to me?"

This question is asked almost every day on this forum. The answer is still the same as it has been for the last decade. Use your search box.

No.

There are many that will charge a premium for a "hand" or "manual" appraisal.

Well, when you put those two words together, you should get a pretty good visual graphic as to how valuable or accurate it will be.

A "hand" appraisal or a "manual" appraisal is precisely what you are getting here - and its free.

Appraisals for undeveloped names are becoming obsolete unless they are PURE generics. Your name will turn you a profit I'm sure, but if you look at the crap that's being offered for sale here, you'll understand that you have to DEVELOP. This forum is full of crazy names that don't stand a chance in hell of being snapped up w/o development. If you don't develop it, it's worth what the highest bidder will pay you. SEO is key. DNF is your best place for an appraisal, as it's free and peer-based.

LOL at appraisals.

There was that old house in downtown hat nobody wanted.
Came there that beautiful girl selling fishing rods, car tuning items, all sorts of male things.
The news spread quick.
That girl made a fortune before the women around found out about.

Appraisals are opinions based upon true or made-up information filtered to the mercy of the appraiser.
Appraisers should make clear upon what information and what filtering basics they do the job.
And, there are no crazy domain names. Odd, strange, weird, yah.
But who says crazy for Yahoo, Google, Tucows (yes: 2 cows ...), etc. ?
Who wants something, pays the price or forget about it.
5star may look nonsense to some people.
Well, they don't have to buy it.

.

There are thousands if not millions of old houses and domain names NOBODY wants. Just because a few are rehabed and turned into MacMansions does not mean your old house has much value or is likely to be sought after.

The (s) hurts value big time in my opinion. Not much worth here.

almost all the search phrases have "five star" in them (not "five stars"), such as "five star hotels" "five star ranges" "five star resorts"....

I like it and believe it has value. The (s) does not bother me at all.

Example of use:

Welcome to 5stars.com - See what hotels, restaurants, resorts, golf courses.... our users have rated with "5 Stars"

You would build a brand off of "5 star" instead of "5 stars"? 5 star isn't grammatically correct and doesn't sound right, at least to me. Google doesn't make a distinction between the s being there and it not being there, at least in my experience of seo. Also the traffic for 5 star searches is not very high, the value of the name isn't in being able to rank for people searching for five star places. I could use another name for that.

What I meant by the appraisal is just so I can be able to show a appraised value of my domains. For financial reasons say if I am looking to get loans, funding, w/e, I can show I have X value to back up the funding. Telling people "well a member on DNF forum thinks..." wouldn't exactly count for much. I don't actually need someone to tell me what the name is worth, I understand its worth, just was interested for financial reasons.

Good luck finding a financial institution that will take a domain appraisal as proof of it's value. All the banks here value domains at fresh registered prices. I had a $250k domain which the bank would not lend on as they determined the price was subjective (as there was no website or business sale) with it.

5 stars is an easily recognized term in the travel industry, so the domain does have value as others have said. One negative is that it doesn't pass the radio test, would be good to have fivestars.com too. Otherwise I'd still agree to a x,xxx value, or higher, I get surprised all the time for what domains go for. Five stars means the best, so the term does have value.
