Today I got a letter from an end user for one of my not favorite domains.
it was saying :
"then got ill and my registration lapsed."

My one side said hey want more , my other side told me hey he was ill.
And I decided to take his offer and did not wanted more.

What are your thoughts ?

There are some big domainers who'll tell you all sorts of things to get a domain. End of the day though, if you were happy with the price, it doesn't matter what he told you.

I don't recommend you do that often or you'll lose money in this business. People often use social engineering to obtain their desired domain for a cheaper price. They play with people's emotions. I agree with Jason also, if your happy with the price that is good thing and it's no big deal. In the future remember every domain has a price, regardless of the buyer's condition or status it doesn't change the value of the domain name.

You can easily check whether he was previous owner. If he is right, then you might want to look at his offer in more sympathatic way.

Did I tell you the story about how I let CNN.com and IBM.com lapse?

One fine day in the late 1980s I woke up with fever and.....

Agree, Stick to this rule and you wont feel burned afterwards.

Recently, I had a guy inquire about a single word generic, he claimed his name was "johnMYDOMAIN" strange word for a last name... Anyway, the domain had an appraisal so I attached it and asked in the range of the SSV price, he writes back and says appraisals are worthless and a domain is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay, at that point, it was obvious I was dealing with a reseller, one who uses a Gmail address BTW.

At the end of the day, you can sleep well knowing you did what you believed was right.

It doesn't matter what his motives were, yours were pure.

That's what counts.

I agree about the seller's motive is what matters.

BUT you must get a million of those though, right? I know I have gotten so many of these and my domains suck compared to yours. Then after being 5 years or so in the business it's hard to say even one of those stories were true. A few of them I replied to and even called to see if I could help personally with their tragedy only to discover I was being rooked. Sad but people do use emotion to make a swift business deal. The bad part of money, greed.

I agree ... I personally have returned a domain to the previous owner for very little above my cost.

I feel good about it...I really believe in Karma!!!

Good Luck :yo:

HI

As long as you did not loose money and if you made some good to.... but if you think the name was worth a lot more then next time.. I would try to get a bit more...

Because even if the person that owned it before was ill I am sure he has family that could have renewed it for him/her

Thanks
Tom

What the seller thinks is the most important. I would have done some small research yet before taking any sort of action. However it doesn't matter now. Believe in yourself I say :)
