I have a dust collection, too. My wife does not like it.

How buyers represent themselves is up to them. If you know the value of your domain, then you stick with that and wait for the right buyer. Maybe there is only one such buyer. So you wait for that one buyer; dont let others distract you, either.

People hide their identities all the time. Like on this forum - most people hide behind an anonymous user name.

One of the largest publicly traded corporations in Poland, offered me $150 for a well known nationwide product brand.com (short one word generic .com). I started digging around after reading the email, and then discovered that their own company name.com had never been regged, and they had been using .com.pl for several years. Goofballs! My response to their lowball offer was NO, but you might want to register your own trademarked name.com. Unfortunately though, a couple days after me querying the domain several times, a Chesterton Holdings type of query jacker snagged it. Oops, I should have known better...

"Hi, we did $18 million in sales last year, operate a $40,000 flash website, and have a pecular knack for playing checkers with TLDs. Just a shot in the dark, but would you take $150 for your domain?" :D

Over half the offers I receive are from people pretending to be somebody their not, I just pretend not to know and increase the price for lying.

Haha, love it :D

So our friend wrote back offering $150. Not too bad for a cash loaded, golden-parachute corporate boy living in one of California's most prestige areas:

We are excited about this venture. For both of us, after many years in the corporate world, the idea of starting a new venture is daunting. As this is my first foray into this area, I have no idea as to what to offer. So, I guess I'll start at $150 and see what happens.

My response:

Thanks for writing back.

As a corporate world veteran, you surely must know about the "attention factor". I call it the "attention threshold" - the act or monetary figure that catches the attention of a senior executive or manager.

Mine starts at $2,500 and based on my range of recent sales, it goes well into mid 5 figures.

If you can cross my attention threshold, I'll make your small business dream a reality.
