I have found the same thing virtual, the age of a domain has little value in my opinion if it's not a premium domain. There are lots of 10+ years old domains that because they are non premium are still worth reg fee.

Age is a very important factor for domains. The age of a domain is very important for SEO purposes. However this is only important if you plan on developing which is not important for resellers and most end users probably do not know the age of a domain or do not care.

IF ... we're talking about LLL.com's and LL.com's ...age is irrelevant.

Why do we talk about age for LLLL.com's ? In order to increase potential value since they are already not that valuable. Especially for a domain like KVMA. This domain is worth max $100 reseller and then we start talking about age...it's worth $1000? I find
that hard to believe.

Let me see you add 1000% value on an LLL.com because of age...unheard of.

overpaying and even price is relative. Look at some 2003 threads from the past.
People were overpaying for LLL.coms back then for a few thousand dollars.
If you want a domain name, you pay what you can afford.
You may never have the "opportunity" to buy this/that name ever again.
I would have overpaid for BOB.com 7 or 8 years ago.
Today, I have no chance. :(

Right, you don`t like KVMA....I`m sure some company in Kentucky or in Kansas or in Korea or in Kenya , which deals with Video stuff may like it.

Like it or not, 4 letters acronyms exist.

About their value, let`s check in few years.

the Kentucky Video Music Awards? :)

Seriously, Korean Video Music Awards might be a good potential for it, though.

I don't think it is overpaying if the domain fits what you need.

As for the age, IMO age shows stability in Google and that much more of being linked elsewhere so you can get linked traffic coming in, too.

"age of a domain" is only important to those who buy domains because it has some.

I have never bought a domain simply because it had some age, nor does age play a part in what I decide to backorder.

as for NJ prices...

buyers pay what they think a name is worth, not what some guide has the price range listed at. that is why you will see names exceeeding your expectations.

all bidders do not read the same propaganda as others

Everyone has a buying strategy of their own. With LLLL com's I prefer to combine good letters with an aged registration. It is important to Google as well, as old domains are easier to gain PR once developed.

Some LLLL.com's and LLL.com will always be of value to US/multinational companies- The rest of the world is quickly adapting to their own ccTLD's and the speed they are adapting to their own cctlds is astonishing-and as more ccTLD's that get released, I predict that .com will eventually be almost without exception an American related only domain in the not too distant future. For example, here in South Africa, If I want info on Shell oil- I'll type the .co.za not the .com or Apple -won't be .com but .co.za and the same in almost every other country with cctld.

How much would this LLLL.com be worth: WhyU.com?
