I've never tweeted or twitted or whatever the heck it's called. I've never even been to the website. There are already too many places to waste valuable time. But reading some responses here suggest I may be overlooking a useful purpose some other time wasting sites are useless for and that specifically is SEO.

Can someone please explain how it can be used for that purpose?

Twitter is going to be the most powerful tool on the Internet to network with the masses of people who have similar interests with yourself. Start positioning yourself ahead of that growth and start developing followers .... primarily by following people with similar interests (domains, affiliate marketing, network marketing, web designers, SEO, cooking, pets, whatever).

It could be very likely Twitter will drive more traffic to your websites than search engines which is the case with many people already. Don't use it for spamming but communicating and networking with others - "Be Yourself" - provide useful information to others - people will visit your sites listed for your URL without any begging! It won't hurt to everyonce in awhile to point people to a new article in your blog or whatever ..... as long as you are providing people value..... they will appreciate it. You can also talk about your business without it being "spammy". (Example .... If Adam tweeted directing people to a good post from a dnforum member or mentioning things he learned the last year in domains .... it will attract people.) Here is one tweet I did "If interested in prices of "reported" domain name sales - visit http://dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm... every week - Ron Jackson's site is A++" - that is helpful info that isn't even my site.

Often here on forums we (which means me as well) tend to get into spats. Don't do it on Twitter! Attract people to yourself by conversing with people. When you "tweet" with other people and people like what you are saying .... they follow you. I recommend mutually following people back that have similar interests or that seem to be good characters in general. (I don't follow back people trying to selling products with every tweet they do - nor do many other people). I personally will un-follow people who don't follow me back after 2-4 days .... why because Twitter has limitations on the amount of people you can follow unless a similar % follow you back and I want "masses of people" following me.

Learn from others - I have learned so much in the last 2 weeks from people & their sites. I am connecting with people all over who once lived in my area. I am developing relationships ..... which is the key no matter what business you are in.

Start Tweeting Yesterday !

PS - When I started this post - I had 2265 people following me - now it is 2270 that can see my updates (comments) when I post them or by visiting my profile (and my website URL listed). How many will it be this time next year? Get the point?

I have some 1400 followers on one of the accounts, but it only brought about 100 visits to the site I was advertising with it. How many visits do you get from this?

There is also a big difference between people adding you automatically, or manually just because you added them, and really following you because you got great content, like this guy who I think is hilarious :D http://twitter.com/darthvader

My short brief experiences tell me two things about twitter...

Don't spam
And offer something people want to find out more about

Well I've changed my link that is shown in my profile a few times in the last couple weeks already but I'm guesstimating I've had 400 people click on my links that I have listed in my profile (in 2-3 weeks). I also list a couple of sites in my profile description which I'm sure helps getting traffic as well.

The Darth Vader guy is hilarious and 54,000+ people follow him at the moment. Lets look at his current stats and his BIO -

Following 5,073
Followers 54,027

Name Darth Vader
Location Empire, CO
Bio Evil Orphan Annie™

Here's my opinion on how this person could make money from what he currently is doing

Step One - Add a website to his profile (humor site with joke email list?) - How many of those 54,000 would visit his site and/or subscribe to his newsletter

Step Two - Start following back all those 54,000 people - This will result in many more people following him because people go thru other people's "followers" lists to follow more people. These people would send replies (updates) to Darth which of course would show up in their profiles ..... which tweaks peoples interest & see Darth in action. People also will Retweet (RT @DarthVader) Darths comments which of course will generate more followers.

(Note - I'm not sure honestly if Lucas Films would go after the guy and listed a URL in his profile. Right now - it's just a parody zone and is no problem)

I do not know if this gentleman is part of that group. Not even sure how I ended up following him.

JOHN A .BYRNE (JOHNABYRNE) is the Editor-in-Chief for Business Week magazine. His bio also portrays himself as a Digital Journalism Advocate.

I thoroughly enjoy following this guy. His tweets are news breaking and very on-the-dot timely like the AIG story breaking before the networks picked it up.

This is a person who really really "gets it" and makes Twitter a powerful medium.

Nice! ;)
I've just start realize Twitter is the first source of news today.
This is the reason because it ranking so well in search engines?

I'm curious...how they monetize the site?

It is weird...I search twitter more than I actually "twitter" myself.
