Good topic, I've been kind of wondering what the general experience is with affiliate programs (non-porn/gambling ones though).

How much could someone perhaps make with maybe 250,000 pageviews per month on a forum site?

I haven't had much success with the few affiliate programs I've tried so far, but haven't really pushed them much.

Forums generally dont convert well because visitors are generally there to chat and not buy stuff.

Thanks a lot for the comments. That's true, I think I need to do some trial and error and googling on it.

It is indeed possible to make a living from affiliate marketing, or to even make 5 or 6 figures a month.

Almost any industry will do. Some people mentionned satellite dishes earlier. They pay well but be cautious of Directv. I was earning over 2k a month in residual commission from subaffiliates, and rapid satellite decided to terminate my account because i'm canadian. Basically this was an excuse to stiff me of over 20k a year.

On the other hand dish network has proven itself very honest.

A lot of industries pay well but I would be cautious with online pharmacies. I went to visit the call center of an online pharmacy in Santa Domingo in the dominican republic and they were trying to push Hydrocone to people who were ordering other medication. This is why I stopped pushing that industry. Hydrocone is a very addictive pain medication that is given to terminally ill patients.

On the other hand I have done very well with financial products and internet gambling.

yes you can mostly pays minimum of U.S.$100 or more per month, cj, linkshare, fineclicks, shareasale are some of the top paying affiliate programs for me.

Don't use Commission Junction (aka "CJ"). After getting suspiscious about getting no commissions after sending thousands of customers, I set up a sting operation I caught them red-handed commiting fraud. I confronted them at Pubcon and the got scared and said "email us and we'll take care of it"... no reply to ANY emails to ANY of the senior staff. The are out-and-out crooks.

I think they mean most of their online income comes from affiliate programs and not adsense/ypn etc

Nothing to do with sub affiliates.. i never bother signing up anybody under me.

Simply from referring visitors to PPS services instead of PPC.

I, of course, have a few affiliate links on my GoPC.com site but I make most of the money from tha site in Adsense. It is one of a few sites that I have BOTH adsense and affiliates on.

Although lately, I've been focusing on site with JUST affiliate links on them to see how they do.... for example:

I own AppleComputerStores.com and it is set up completely as an Apple Computer Store Affiliate site... Looks like an ecommerce page but with te links being affiliate links to my Apple Store Affiliate site(s).

I update it weekly and immediately with any new products or sales that Apple sends me.

I've been getting checks every month so far...5% on iTune downloads can add up :)

RentalCarQuotes.com I have a similar setup... the links to most the bookings are affiliate links. I think I should reverse the page though so the links are more to the top... I don't know. Maybe I should just try it and find out.

Anyway, a couple of my sites and approaches to this market. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Yea Ive made over $40,000 this past year off Gambling CPA programs. Income has been dramatically slashed though since the anti-gaming bill was passed in Congress a few weeks ago. And that $40k was just off one site...imagine if I was a tad more ambitious! LOL.

Although reading this thread makes me want to expand my horizons a bit more and I've actually PM'd a few people for more information on other products and services. Looking forward to working with some of you in the future!

How much do you earn on GoPC? From the look of it, seems that you put in a lot of effort, but the returns can justify??

Honestly, there isn't much effort into that. The design and implementation was pretty easy. As far as revenue, it does pretty well. PPC is all over the boards from less than .50 cents a click to roughly $4 per click.... some weeks it's way up, others it's way down. The past two weeks, PPC has been way down by comparrision. Perhaps only 25% of what it was over the months of October and September. It's nice getting a check from Adsense every month.

Affiliate advertising has been pretty consistant 3 figures every month. It would be so much more valuable it the affiliates paid more than 1% in some cases though. I should very much like to see 10% ;)

I have meetings today regarding GoPC... it may not be mine for much longer :(

But in general, the site has been pretty easy to manage and build and it paying the home bills so I've been pretty happy with it.

I'm hoping that AppleComputerStores.com and RentalCarQuotes.com get there too.

I had an interesting email from a merchant(I'm an affiliate) yesterday looking to work with affiliates on a PPC basis instead of the typical affiliate program. I've been thinking of converting to a similar format next year where the merchants pay for advertising on my sites. Maybe merchants are beginning to think that PPC on specific sites is more cost effective for them. I will consider the idea as the merchant has a fixed monthly cost & I get a fixed monthly income stream.
