I have been looking at the list of names in the auction and I find less than 30% of names I think are going to sell. Many great names just WAY to high reserves. I am curious to hear what others think especially since Jay is running a contest to see who predicts which ones sell and do not sell.

Only time will tell on this.

My problem is: Way to many 'bad' domains included in this auction. A bunch of domains you could not sell for more than $20 - $50 dollars on DnForum.

Just...IMHO.

Peace,
Dan

It's not an auction of exclusively premium domains, there is a mix of domains of various quality and pricing, this way the audience touched should be larger.
Tomorrow it's the first day of Jay's event, the worst we can wish him is the conference and the auction be a great success.
I guess he must be very excited and at the same time very stressed.

Jay we cross our fingers for you!

Hi,

I am not wishing Jay anything bad...

I hope its a great success...

If it is, my view of their domain select process will sure be way off.

More power to him...I know these types of events take a longtime...with some very hard work put into them.

Just was giving my "pre-auction' opinion.

Peace.

Well, I got 3 into the auction, so I hope they get some action! He has been advertising like crazy which is great for the sellers/auction!

I just wish they would add a section to there site for people to sign up to bid online for the auction!

Very true: either the reserves are set to high to sell at a given venue, or people are auction-arbing the same mid-level generics across Traffic, Great Domains, Roundtable, etc. Either way, I think the top-level generics are almost all sealed by strategic/long-term holders, so we'll start seeing the quality drop a bit.

AH...rfm...you might see the point I tried to make on FS's blog then:

Basically...

I tried to make the point a month ago that the domain industry as a whole would be better off holding more conferences for "non-domainers" than domainers....and cut the auctions down. (rigt now)

Conferences...just to 'educate' people in the advertising and marketing world, end user compaines about domains as well as all the potential 'end users' in the world.

Still...95% of these folks...do not 'get it'...because no one has bothered to educate them...or the education and things they think and believe about domain names...is almost completely wrong.

We have to educate...the masses...so we increase the size of potential "bidders" at future auctions.

pure and simple.

Peace,
Dan

And lose out on the 10% or 15% commission?

Not gonna happen .. Orange juice for conference attendees is damn expensive

Just got the name I wanted (gastronomy.com) for really less I had preditected to spend ... a chance no one else bidded.
The way the auction is implemented online for bidders is amazing.
Let see what happen with the others names...
