Entrepreneur magazine recently listed its Top 100 companies to watch, under a range of categories. One of those categories was mobile, and the magazineâs cognoscenti listed the following companies:
1. Plastic Logic whose founders have created a possible Kindle-killer. Their research focused on flexible plastic

substrates to produce durable thin high-contrast displays. The result, scheduled to launch in 2010, will feature a touchscreen, a durable plastic window, and high-contrast reflective display technology as well as a legal-pad sized Reader. Plastic Logic has already made content deals with USA Today, Financial Times and Zinio.
2. Aliph which Entrepreneur praised for its high-tech, high-fashion jaw-bone alternative to Bluetooth headsets.
3. The Blimp Pilots who designed 2008âs top selling iPhone app, Koi Pond, and now released Distant Shore in which users can find digital messages in a bottle by walking along a virtual shore or write their own.
4. DotMobi which translates websites into handheld-friendly pages with a mobile web address.
5. Machine Works Northwest, creator of Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile, which is bringing classic games Doom and Duke Nukem to mobile devices.
6. MobileYouth, which issues an annual study of youth mobile habits and provides a window into how to capture this important market.
7. Motricity is a mobile information services provider that exceeded $100 million in revenue for 2008 and provides a range of services for partners including Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.
8. Plum Reward is mobile couponing system that allows restaurants to track customer visits and the effectiveness of its promotions.
9. Slacker Radio is customizable Internet radio software that adapts to your listening tastes over time. The company has launched iPhone and BlackBerry apps.
10. Transpera is a comprehensive platform to monetize mobile video. The company raised $8.25 million in venture capital this year and has deals with VH1, Discovery, MSNBC and MTV. MobilizedTV has written about Transpera in the past: for its work in covering the Emmy campaign; MSNBC adding mobile video; Fox Reality Channel launching on iPhone and Associated Pressâ launch on the mobile phone.
