Please can we have no more anti-french posts ?

I know all the political reasons........

But you can't go around saying you hate the French.

Its racist - their government make the decisions not the people.

I suggest the moderators are allowed to delete any anti-French posts.

I agree. Racism is not something that should be tolerated - attitudes like that were the calling card of the Nazis in Germany.

It is easy to hate, but it takes much more courage, character and wisdom to forgive and move on.

i'm not a french hater and havent posted anything about the french recently but i'm aware of the posts you are speaking of...

I suggest the moderators are allowed to delete any anti-French posts.

but to suggest MORE censorship and deleting of posts when there are many current open threads about that issue is probably not good timing on your part.

However....if you could agree to never let your emotions get the better of you and post off topic political statements in appraisal threads like this one

http://www.dnforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25174

there may be a deal in the offing.

what do you say? just a deal between you and me.....

Although I will never step foot in France or buy anything french, I agree with WHOIS---let's keep the politics out of the domain business!

Keep in mind though. If you delete "anti-whatever" threads, you will have to delete "pro-whatever" threads to....

I guess it would be better to just say that any "racist" posts are unacceptable and will be removed. That way we hopefully won't see racist references for any country or its people. I can't see any good reason for just one country or its people being treated in a special way.
I take izopod's point on board as well - we've seen some "gung-ho", "nuke-em" type posts in recent months that are equally unacceptable and should be removed if we are going to be clear and unbiased.

Id even say lets avoid all kinds of political discussion here for the sake of DNF being a *domain* board.

Racism?

The french are not a "race". They are a nationality. People throw around the term racism without any clue as to its meaning.

Actually it takes less courage, character and wisdom to "forgive and move on". When you do that, you are trying to position yourself to look like a do-gooder taking the moral high ground. It takes no courage at all. Courage, character, and wisdom come from having to take the tough serious choices which actually confront people on issues in spite of how they make you look like some heartless bastard.

Definition of race (dictionary.com) - "A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race."

If you believe it is easier to not forgive than to forgive then you have never been in the position where you have forgiven someone for a terrible wrong they have done you. I have and for years I hated the other party with a passion. Genuinely forgiving them was one of the toughest things I have ever done. They are now one of my friends. I don't care how I look before or after forgiving them - the fact is that now my life is about ten times more enjoyable than it was and I have another friend.

...plus everyone can go back to getting fat on french fries again. I personally never thought much of the "freedom fries" campaign. Anything that adds pounds to your gut shouldn't be called "freedom" in my book. But I digress.

I'm totally with you on this, my fellow moderator. :) As DNForum is moving forward to become more professional and business-like, there is no place here for those acts that are clearly unacceptable to the mainstream business community. We now have the rules updated, and Commandment #1 reads that racist content will no longer be allowed.

By the way, moderators ARE supposed to take care of inappropriate posts. That's actually written on our job description! :D And just for the record, I have edited some racially insensitive posts and closed a couple of such threads. (Personally, I prefer not to delete them so they'll always be there as part of our history. ;) )

I totally aggree, such behavior are unprofessional and childish! those shouldnt be tolerated on our forum.
I am sure if they search a bit they will find a forums where they can express their hate and frustrations but as the top banner says, this forums is "The Online Community for serious domain owners"

Edited: So please change your signature!

Fox Dale

Now hang on!! :weird: I assume you are referring to the FranceStinks.com web address. This is his perogative to post this domain in his signature, because this is a domain-trade forum.

There are plenty of offensive topics contained in domains. If everyone is expected to be 100% P.C. with their signature domains, everyone will have to lose their porn, gambling, and religious signatures because they may be offensive to people. However, once you start censoring domains in signatures (beyong vulgarity), you make this forum more about trying to please everyone than domain prospecting.

Oh, and to answer Steve's question, there are a lot of Arabs that do, in fact, hate America, and if they posted a domain name of value to that demographic (such as AmericaStinks.com), I would hope that we would have the internal strength to just ignore it and go on (as long as it is not threatening or vulgar). FranceStinks.com is a valuable domain name (I would appraise it in three figures), so I say there is no reason KidKool should remove it.

Maybe that would be a good litmus test: domains deemed offensive may only be put into signatures if their appraisal value exceeds some arbitrary threshold (such as $100). Sound good?

My $0.02

Offensive domain names ARE offensive no matter what dollar values are attached to them.

By the way, please read our UPDATED rules more carefully.

Slippery slope. Is the humor section going away or just the posts in that section by the mods pertaining to body parts?

by the way..for the record...who should we be sending all removal and/or editing requests when we see something that we individually deem to be offensive?

need to make sure we are sending them to the right person.

I assume you mean the "racist" test. Perhaps, for the sake of clarity, you should rephrase to say "against any race or nationality" (as is seen in most boiler-plate legal docs) to clarify that we are talking about more than lineage, but also country of citizenship.
