Google to Acquire the World's Largest Domain Name Registrar?

DomainNameWire and eWeek have recently been speculating about a Google (GOOG) acquisition of Godaddy, the world's largest domain name registrar.

Reasons cited include the numerous domain (and sometimes search) related patents which Godaddy has been filing lately, an existing partnership between Google and Godaddy under the Google Aps for Your Domain package, and the vast amount of domain related data Google would gain and be able to potentially leverage to improve search.

When asked about a potential union, Godaddy CEO Bob Parsons told eWeek, "I have no comment on that, but I'd like to."

While a potential acquisition still seems to be complete speculation, Bob Parons' lack of comment may be telling. He is typically outspoken about everything. Many have pointed to his inability to keep quiet as the reason why Godaddy withdrew their IPO in late 2006. On his blog, Parsons referred to the one month quiet period as "suffocating." Story.

If Bob sells, what does he have after that? (besides a ton of money)....The man has made himself known in the industry and in the media, and he loves every bit of it, I cant see him hanging it up just yet.

Unless he signs some sort of non-compete agreement he could just start all over again.

Or it's possible google will keep him around to do the media/advertising/marketing end of the business. Either way, he will be rich and can find many ways to entertain himself.

I have a feeling he'll continue in the domain reg business as Blue Razor (www.bluerazor.com)

One of my domains showed up with Registrar of record being Blue Razor although I reg'd it with GD. This gave me a huge scare until I found out that it is one and the same owner and the domain still appeared in my GD control panel.

definitely moniker..

Bob is a rebel (why I like him)..unless they throw stupid big money at him, he ain't selling..but then again knowing google..they might just give him a blank check for Godaddy..they are #1 (both of them in their own markets)

Oh for the love of God!!! Google hasn't updated their search engine in 3 years, what the hell would they want with GoDaddy? Larry and Sergey, put the money down and take a f@ucking vacation! I wish I could innovate for 2 years, and then spend the rest of my life blocking progress, no one at the pub could top that.
