Google CHROME - how will it impact our traffic, domains, & ppc revenue? Good bad none

The auto suggest feature shoud be good for site owners and generic domain holders.
It will be bad for typo and tm domainers.

I have no problem with that.

You must own some big sites with a big advertising budget if have no problem with the auto suggest feature. You think owning a generic that is parked...say with a Yahoo feed, is going to continue to get thousands of visitors?

Google is trying to side step any government intervention by pushing the 'open-source' motto. Sure, wouldn't it be great if all these other browsers copied us and helped us control the traffic?

Anyone recall the issues with subliminal advertising - like the quick flashes of a coke and popcorn, right before a drive-in movie started? This site suggestion pattern is manipulative advertising to the 100 degree!

The internet becomes less open and much less equal when the search engines can manipulate WHAT people search and not just HOW they search. Major conflict of interest.

There may be no drastic changes yet, but make no mistake, this will have an enormous impact on domainers whose business model was based on type-ins.

Upon further review, not so sure.

How is it possible there could be no search box? Maybe they want us to use the url window instead (but that only brings up suggested sites)?

Where is the Home Page icon?

Another oddity is for some odd reason the type quality is not as good as IE.

The "incognito mode" can hurt affiliate marketing unless someone takes action on the clicks while that session is going. After they close "incognito" window the cookie is gone. Other than that it seems like a smooth operating browser, it's just not out on Linux yet.

I know sometimes ppc ads (like on parked pages with a yahoo feed) don't show when surfing the web using proxy services..I am wondering if the same thing will happen with this browser?

Both Chrome and the new IE8 appear to potentially heavily negatively impact search traffic, Adsense/YPN ad displays, typeins and especially typos and TM names in favor of the better known Suggested Sites it finds.

If you rely much on Typos/TMs you could be in big trouble with a looming huge decline in their resale values. I can see them dropping in value by at least 90% due to these 2 double-whammies.

:yes: Only said based on early use of them and what I have seen the 2 new browsers are doing differently so it may be wrong and I hope it is wrong, especially regarding impacting SE, Typein traffic and Ad display.

Well I really really like chrome, I am using it right now and if it wasn't for roboform I would have already made the total switch. I disliked IE I never liked firefox but I do really like Chrone. Well the sky is not falling but we need to change the business model. 5 10 yrs max time and this business will be upside down. This will hurt more than anything extensions making them useless very soon. Google is going for the big pie, why sharing? Now the address bar and the search are all the same it does not matter anymore. On chrone google.co resolves to google. Will google.cm soon redirect to google? Anyway once you try there is no going back. It is so much faster so much better than the others. I love the downloads the privacy page and everything else. With gmail this is the best product google launched by far. We are doomed

Considering how popular firefox is already and the HUGE exposure it got as an innovative "new" browser and it only has what a 20% or so market share? I think Google surely will get alot of downloads but it would be years before they gained a big % of users over the IE browser platform..thank God.

Focus I need to disagree, I see it getting a 50% market share within 2 3 years. It is so much better than the others. I suggested it to 4 people and they all left IE for good.

Wired - Roughly 85% of your revenue comes from Google. What happens if Google decides to build its own broswer?
John Lilly: It's kind of suckers game to speculate about what Google's going to do. That said, it was the Google guys who approached us - not the other way around - because Firefox was a good browser. Our relationship will be just fine, as long as we build something that people give a damn about.


Anyone want to comment on that?

Its learning quite fast I only need to input the first 2 letters of a domain name now and push enter to be redirected to the site I visit the most. Like dnforum.com its now dn enter. WOW nice.

After working with Chrome a few hrs it is now my default browser after it asked my if I wanted to make it the default.

I just noticed some good ways to customize it and it can also correct spelling errors while typing into another website as I am doing right now. It just corrected several errors above which is a cool feature.

It seems very fast and the clean look and feel and making the search function part of the address bar window is an excellent idea, IMO.

This answers the wishes of people like Rick Schwartz who for many years have wanted people to use the browser window exclusively. BTW, instead of 50% market share in 2-3 yrs I am predicting only 2-3 months to 50%.

My favourite one honestly its typing the first 2 character of a domain and hitting enter. Everything its so much faster. Lets hope not many people do catch up on it...

hard-coded and session-id based affiliate tracking should be unaffected by the incognito feature. also, i change up my browser pretty regularly, so adding another is more of a tool than a complete switch up.

if the value of tm names goes down, that probably means the generic names rise in value, so that seems like a step in the right direction.

Anyone can come up with reasons this browser will make our lives suck, but who is coming up with strategies to benefit from it's new features. Faster surfing is great, isolated controls sounds nice, I can see content sites driving more volume (minus the 404 theft.)

I'll definitely need to do something with parked pages, develop more sites for real interactive content, continue to drive leads for back-end list approaches, and see if it will improve PPC response. Hopefully Mozilla will improve it's memory management as a result.

I noticed that too. Often it only takes 2 letters (occasionally 3) to find the urrl you were looking for.

Also interesting how sometimes the suggested url happens to be my own domain
