I can manage fine with 5-6 hours in the weekdays and I usually try to get 7-8 hours in the weekends. So let's discuss how many hours you sleep per night and how many hours you need in order to function properly. :)

I actually do get eight hours most nights but have never been one to require all that much sleep. I've pulled all nighters on the computer many times and can still function the next day just fine.

I am a very light sleeper and it usually takes 1-2 hours for me to fall asleep. I got like 1000 things on my mind when I go to bed at night, not necessary negative stuff, but it just makes it very hard to sleep. :)

Me too, I'm exactly the same way, always thinking about domaining, developing, or something on my mind when I hit the bed.

Exactly the same way... Plus that I wake up 4-5 times during the night, and might take hours to get back to sleep.
It's usually somewhere around 10 hours from I go to bed until I get up, but on average I probably don't sleep more than 5-6 hours during that time.

It's better now than it used to be, though... I have a business where I have set the standard that the customers should get support 24/7/365, and a comprehensive response within one hour... For almost 4 years I run that *myself*, every day, all year around... It could be 2-3 days without any sleep at all, sometimes. (When my upstream provider had some issues.)
I even run it from the hospital, recovering from surgery... (the surgery itself luckily didn't take more than a couple of hours), and from my sickbed having the flu and high fever, more than once.
Considering I'm not so young any more (45), had heart surgery already at 35, a small stroke at 36, another at 40, and have to take medication against chronic high blood pressure, it was getting dangerous.
Luckily I could finally afford hiring some help, and now it's only 1-2 nights a week that I need to take care of customer support, so I sleep much better now... :asleep:

Good to hear. :) Some nights I can't sleep at all and I can't explain why. I can be dead tired when I go to bed and _almost_ fall asleep, but suddenly I'm wide awake and I just basically twist and turn all night until it's morning. Those nights really suck..

I'm over 40. I'm happy with 6-8 per night, including nature calls, and short naps during the day.

sleep is something that happens when it happens... if I try to crash early zzzzz, I just end up waking up at 3-4am and jumping online....

I usually nap at the computer during the day :asleep: (((power naps))) LOL

Same here Stian, when my mind is full I simply cannot sleep. Otherwise I love to sleep, 8-9 hours a day, from researches it seems that 7 hours is the healthiest, but I'm still young and as I get older I sleep less, so the time might come. By healthiest I mean that those people live the longest who sleep 7 hrs / day.
