I was surprised a couple of days ago to see that TRAFFIC.co.uk was AVAILABLE. Apprantely dropped and not gathered up. So of course, I reg'd it.

Got the letter from my regsitrar that the payment was received and then... some LOOOONG time later, I get another letter saying it was unavailable.

They should really have to pay for the heart failure we have during this process. LOL!

Anyway, For a brief moment... I owned Traffic.co.uk and was very, very happy.

Now... well, not so happy.

Anyone else buy these available and yet NOT available domains?

Or is it just me? :(

Well,

I just bought an "available" .co.uk and it's been a couple of hours and no domain or letter saying I did not get it...I think it is a glitch at .co.uk registrar.

This was a great one word domain so I'm guessing i'm not getting it.

I think the registrar there is letting all of US pick all THEIR new names. LOL!!!

We reg "Traffic", they say "Wow, nice name, I'll take that... DENIED" and send us a "sorry" letter. Meanwhile, they make a killing.

I'd bet money that the latest two BIG uk finds, Business.co.uk and Traffic.co.uk are both regsitered by regeistrars or their holdings.

Doesn't seem fair, does it? The small guy will NEVER have a chance for these reg's.

Grrr.....

So you still have a chance with traffic.co.uk and business.co.uk (shown as Suspended) - Good luck

Can't see how... the reply back from the Registrar says it's unavailable... are you saying they have not yet been released? And if that's true, then what... first in line get's it?

Yeah, now you're feeding my dreams again.

If the FUNDS are refunded, then we are NOT in line anymore, correct?

That would SUCK to have been first in line, get your refund, them say "sorry, you didn't pay" and then it goes to the next bloke that simply hadn't got his refund yet.

Again with the Grrrr.....

Attack from every angle. Check whois at www.nic.uk. The name has not yet released. It is a pre-Nominet name so nobody knows when it will be released. You can 'backorder' Nominet names. Just check every day. Also, once you have the whois info then check Companies House, check to see if the company is in receivership. If so write to the receivers or (maybe) the owner etc etc. Don't give up..

I just got a letter back from NIC.UK and they say that the reason the domain hasn't been released is because they "are in discussion" with the previous/current registrant to renew the domain.

Game over boys. :(

I tried :)

Does anyone know what nic.co.uk means when the domain name has the following:

*** This registration has been SUSPENDED. ***

Does that mean it is going to drop soon?

Officially, it means that the domain wasn't renewed and the registrant has 60 days to correct it. After the 60 days is up, the domain is supposed to be returned to the public pool for new registration.

That's pretty much the point of this thread... Domains like Radio.co.uk, Business.co.uk and Traffic.co.uk are in some sort of "suspended animation" and "Above the law" negotiations between Nic.uk and the previous owners.

Totally breaking their own rules for what is presumably an obscene profit.

Proof to eveyone that fair play and equality mean nothing to these people.

It is really a shame because I regged a name that was available a few days ago (had expired in April 2006)...and then got the e-mail saying the registration had failed...now it is listed in the whois as:

*** This registration has been SUSPENDED. ***

It was not that way before I attempted to reg it. Something really stinks.

You will NEVER get any half-decent dropping .co.uk domain name, especially something like business.co.uk. There are dozens and dozens of professional catchers with direct access to the UK registry running scripts, hundreds of semi-professionals with scripts and then thousands of other people watching them and using public and private drop services.

I called them up and was told that for instance traffic.co.uk is a PRENOM name which means it's a domain registered before nominet existed.

They further let me know that it's a normal procedure for them with pre-nominet domains to contact the current registrant out of legal reasons because as at the time when these domains were registered they were not subject to nominet TOS.

So they legally have to do make every effort to contact the registrant in order to sort of bringing the name up to nowadays nominet TOS standard.

Only when they have tried to contact the registrant with no success, they are legally allowed to cancel/delete the domain (because as the name initially was not a nominet name so to speak they have no initial right to cancel that name).

It appears (from what they've told me) that for this reason these PRENOM domains are given a 3-4 month extra time frame before the domains go to cancellation - and that there is no exact drop date to predict.

They also assured me that this is the same procedure with all PRENOM domains, no matter if it's a generic name or hk3jhd76fgkdfjkdf.co.uk

:)

Never say never ;) However it is a lot easier to catch two word domains. I am suprised at the names that I catch. eg. I picked up justloans .co.uk and sold it for 900 GBP, tvphones .co.uk sold for 500 GBP and just a few weeks ago I picked up justbeds .co.uk (on ebay :)) all using 3rd party drop services.

Yes, you used drop services to register 2-word domains. These people are attempting to register single-word, premium domains manually. There is an enormous difference.

On a serious point.... what would TRAFFIC.co.uk be worth? we have a date of sale, but would like to ask the DN community if it is worth getting involved with it because of the problems above / previous owners snatching it back after sale?
