Hi all:

I've just looked at traffic stats for one of my domains. In the referrer data, I see www.2000.xxxxxx.com.

Huh? I own xxxxxx.com (those of you who know me can guess which one it is:?:) How can someone I don't know tack a subdomain onto my domain?

I'm not too fussed, because it defaults to my domain, and I get the PPC.

But still, what jackal would do this? And how?

Check your current DNS entries at your registrar. Specifically, check for subdomains that may have been created and still resolve. Or use 'dig' if you don't have direct access to that info.

More specific (sorry):

Hey, thanks for that.

I keep a tight control on my stuff, and just checked my DNS. As I thought, no subdomains. However, I just transferred away from Dotster.com, where the name was regged for years and years.

Excuse my ignorance...what is, and where do I find, "dig"?

Steve

lol....obviously not tight enough control.....

Learn to use what you have. Do you know what Mac terminal/console is?

Uh, yeah, I do have it actually, and I've used it a few times. But, I'm a front end jock (that didn't come out right, but means I mainly live in the apps.) Never really delved into the code end of things.

However, I am intrigued. If you don't mind teaching, I am an apt student.

Secret is not to dismiss sage advice while vouchsafing how experienced you are. You may have 20 old ones, but you haven't mastered any of them. Try a humbler approach to free advice - don't be a 'know all'. My name is not "Dude" either.

just type in your console/terminal:

dig domain.com

goodluck

and remember if you use other hosting dns/nameservers then they can create whatever subdomain...i guess you know that? just a hint

that command dig is installed by default in a lot of linux Operating systems

Well, excuse the shit outta me. I've made millions outta my MACs without needing to know how to track down a clown in the UNIX realm. Have you?

Sorry, xNinja... thank you very much for your help.

Zooooooo get stuffed....

Sorry, Zoooooo, Dude! Get stuffed.

You are obviously a Pilsbury dough person.

Come back when you are humble enough to offer thanks to people who have offered you advice on the very question you started, and when you know what the following does:

#dig -tns yourdomain.ext

#dig -tmx yourdomain.ext

Then we can explore how your canonicals are configured (hint above).

Enough arrogance.

Hey - shame - posts crossed.

I was trying to help you despite your personal largesse - however you've not really picked the right guy here to play with. Still, best of luck!

Excuse me, Sir, I didn't pick you. You picked me, sunshine.

Now, perhaps we can get back on track in a constructive manner?

I've just done the aforementioned 'dig' as suggested by a friendly, non-pedantic, DNF colleague from Terminal, and find no sub domains or anything untoward.

I will ask my host to look into possible intrusions, and I'll also have a look at my log files and monetising company to see what they know.

Here's a prick with 20 years and 20 Macs and 78 posts. And doesn't understand 'dig'. And with a signature with "righter" in it - like there is no such word in the English dictionary; I told you not to mess with me despite helping you.
