Not only this person peddle his trademark violations, but brags about them and quotes a news story where he got the idea to exploit this trademark. Classic!

I see that DNForum removed my posts suggesting that he read the legal forum on trademarks. He initially replied that no one cares about trademark violations, but that post was removed too.

I never said you did. My point was that you randomly called someone out about a tm and you have those domains on your homepage.

Either show where I (or anyone else for that matter) has done that or admit you have nothing to contribute to the discussion.

Oh, so it's okay to hold TM names as long as you don't boast about them or post them in sales threads? I guess the three TM's for the "University Of Phoenix" (correect spelling) don't mean anything? I guess it also okay to trade on Famous Peoples names? A lot more WIPO's have been won by complaintants over famous names, than lost.

So much hypocrisy.

I don't see how registering names of celebrities is any more morally correct than registering company names, both are brands and both can be used for non-for-profit purposes.

The underlying motives from those chronically profiteering from another's work mentality are often clearly thumb-printed in a person's portfolio. The patterns of 'bad faith' are very consistent and can easily be caught out in WIPO proceedings.

Let's not murky the water or dilute the issue by tossing small tomatoes at each other, there is a big stinking pumpkin that's grinning at you, and that is WIPO.

Agree that ethics are judged and honored differently by different people - some have to put food on the table to feed the kids so money is all important irregardless, others will take the high moral ground despite not making 'questionable' money from that.

The best solution to this is for us to start an independent Domain Foundation of sorts where members all agree, and abide by, a certain code of ethics, eg no porn.

Those who chose to wear the Foundation's badge will be willing to subject themselves to scrutiny and censor by the members of that Foundation. Those who don't, can do whatever they please.

Right now, its like trying to tell a cannibal to stop eating humans.

I have typo names, and I have tm names. I also have generic names. So do a lot other people. I have seen stats on some tm name in the $xxx.xx a day range, and this was a well known domainer.

How many of you know George Strait? I have his name in the .info, and plan on making a fan site for him, as I really like Strait's music. I never heard of paying a royalty on that sort of thing, but if that would be the way to do it, so be it.

But I also have names that I have no "legit" reason to have, such as jerseymikessubs.com, when the real site is jerseymikes.com, and am profiting from those clicks... I wonder what this sub place would say if I called them up one day telling them that I have this typo of their name? :-D

Anyway I was also wondering, from an advertisers point of view, would this "tm typo" traffic really convert for an advertiser as well as a generic typin would?

Also since I am a domainer, and know about ppc, I am less likely to click on ppc ads now then I used to, so when a person typos a tm name, and comes to a generic search page, what do they do? I know a lot click on a link, but is that not confusing to a person? What really goes on in the average internet user's mind when they land on a page that they did not expect to go to... Are they then going to buy from the first link on the site that comes up? Or are they just going to check it out then go back to try to find jerseymikes.com?

That's not such a bad idea if you think about it, that's probably the best way to get type-in traffic nowadays, given that search engines have more or less taken away most of the need to type-in on the address bar for common generic words. :cheesy:
