I know this probably won't be a popular tip but I swear by 30 minutes to 1 hour of cardio and 10-20 minutes of strength training (4 sets of 12 reps alternating muscle groups) each day. Depending on my schedule sometimes it means getting up early to do it, or waiting until the evening.
There are many days when I don't feel like doing it, but I do it anyway. I also take a day or sometimes two off on the weekend and instead go for a casual walk with my wife.
I believe we weren't designed to sit around for 8, 9, 10 or more hours per day. I think over the long term it's very important - at least for me - to be active for a period of every day in order to offset the long periods of inactivity that are common with any desk job.
