Consumers don't know moby exists and in 5 years they still won't know moby exists. Ask Rick how much of the $200K he spent on flowers.mobi he's recovered.

I'd rather ask Rick how much he lost in interest on his 200K investment since purchasing the domain?..... LMAO

Who told you he paid 100% cash up front? How did you get details of the deal? Inquiring minds want to know.

Not selling.

Develop, develop, develop.

Networking.

Bitter because of all the poor advice doled out on this forum over all these years.

Seasoned domainers are so afraid of change. That is their safe zone.

Yes, things were much more simple when there was only a few extensions, stale technology, only one method of doing business, and everyone listened to the domain gods.

Innovation, technology, and global marketing have taken over the internet to the point that it has caught many people (and domainers) off guard and disrupted their safe zone.

Honestly, I gave a perfect example of how all one has to do is look on their own device by viewing two sites - ClickZ.com and 84T.mobi - and be honest with themselves which looks better and which works better on their very own mobile device.

If someone is not willing to try, then thanks for proving my point.

Any color as long as it's black.

This new cell phone will be a complete audio browser.
You can navigate with voice commands and the cell phone will read to you what's written on the website and maybe describe the pitchers if asked to.
And the "smart phone" will be smarter than the user, read the users' mind, and show exactly what you want to see.

Hmm...

I have absolutely no doubt that it will be voice prompt.

I agree - who dared call you stupid?

Why would anyone doubt your bold prediction?

If a phone can currently respond to, "call home", it can certainly be programmed to respond to voice prompts, "Show ESPN dot com".

I can see you really went out on a limb making that assertion.

Someday you will be able to say, "Times dot com, sports, NY giants" and perhaps it will show that exactly as you say. This is certainly feasible.

However, to make an assertion as you have stated is saying there is only a need for .com - no need for .net, .cn, .de, .ca. no IDN, .jp - nothing except for what YOU and domainers want.

Are we just going to do this in English? Perhaps add a few other popular languages based on demands? Or will that even be necessary? Is dot com going to sound like dot com in Mandarin, Slavik, French, Polynesian? Are phones going to be so intuitive to be able to understand the world’s 6,912 known living languages? (http://www.ethnologue.com)

If you say mobi is not needed, then I have a question; what is needed and what else is not needed. It is amazing that you have come out against .mobi as not being needed and stopped your rationale right there.

You have suddenly discounted one TLD but none of the other TLD's and ccTLD's? We can keep everything there is except .mobi? We can keep the 260+ extensions we currently have plus the possible 100 - 1000 new ones to come within that 5 year span you use to make your prediction?

All have a use except .mobi? Because you and some domainers don't like it and took a vote?

This is why I love this forum so much. I learn so much regarding peoples' needs, technology, the law, medical news, and what we - as individuals or members of society - can live without just by visiting these classic threads.

Now do you see how ridiculous your statement appears?

seems to me alot of domainers want the extension gone

I could care less whether .mobi lives or dies. Type-in traffic is the gauge for value and viability of any extension. Hence, major_keyword.com has great value. major_keyword.mobi = no type-in traffic. No type-in traffic = no value/viability. Even if mobis had type-in traffic it would be the worst converting traffic there is.

There are no signs of traffic patterns changing on .mobis. That is a bad sign for mobi fanatics. A Superbowl ad wouldn't save moby.

All those Namepros members that regged thousands of worthless mobis (some of the goofs actually bought them on the aftermarket) will have to just watch them expire.

.mobi was only profitable when it first came out to smart domainers who purchased key names and 3 letter .mobis for $60 on Pool pre-ordering then sold them a week later. That's what I did with some 20 LLL.mobis and a few names. buy for $60 sell for $650+ lol. Suckers!!!

Doc, tell me. How is AA.com looking on your mobile ?
I'll look at both the Helio Ocean and the iPod touch when i get to the station that they are charging in.

Then I might take a turn at showing how AA.com CAN look on a mobile device and PC or anything without any special browser, auto detect or anything.

In the meantime, I invite everyone to conduct your own test with YOUR OWN mobile device. If you can not be honest with yourself, then you can not be honest.

Try looking at SevenMile.com on your mobile. Then look at mSevenMile.mobi. Enter the site by clicking on The Latest.

Or try the site mentioned in post #1 of this thread. Look at Clickz.com on your mobile device and then look at 84t.mobi on your mobile device. Enter the mobile site from Click Here to Enter the Mobile Version.

And people want to STILL CONVINCE ME that auto detect and leaving every thing up to the browser is the best option? Or that the .com STILL functions and is easier to navigate than the .mobi version EVEN ON THE iPHONE or THE iPOD TOUCH?

Now, here's a question...what if a .com was BUILT as a mobile compliant site? Where would traffic come from then?

All those Namepros members that regged thousands of worthless mobis (some of the goofs actually bought them on the aftermarket) will have to just watch them expire.
One of the true facts of mobi I will always agree with.

Not all words are appropriate for every extension. Success of one word on a site does not guarantee equal success of all other extensions.

And some people simply are not cut out to be domainers and should not be investing WITHOUT doing research, without being prepared to suffer through the high and lows, and without knowing what in the hell they are doing to begin with.

Period.

Even the 80% crap and totally useless domains I see advertised for sale on this forum and some of the appraisal threads.

Trust me, there is a reason for NO COMMENTS in sales thread here.

The way prices have gone lately, I'm more worried that domaining might itself be dead!

mobi, like other pump and dump, domainer fueled buyouts (LLLL.com, NNNNN.coms, etc.) are very, very hard to make profits with.
