You know I never got an email from DNForum stating this deletion. I got one from Acorn but never here. Maybe give some old timers another chance by sending another email or something?

Good morning.

We were already playing a dangerous game with fate sending out messages to all the users.

Here is a screenshot from the dashboard of our SMTP server:

Screenshot 2024-05-19 at 08.40.09.png

1 service that at some point spammers were using in history is Yahoo. Now, when we are sending emails to this particular service (due to large amount or bounce-backs) > our previous mass email significantly impacted our email server’s reputation with Yahoo. Historically, Yahoo has been stringent with bulk emails, leading to higher bounce-back rates and potential blacklisting. Continuing this practice could destroy our ability to communicate effectively with all members who have Yahoo addresses. .. Hotmail would be the next email service we keep an eye on, though Yahoo has already taken some action against us.

@Sterling, thank you very much for the suggestion. I wish we could do this.

I took the opportunity to upgrade my avatar, while everyone is ensuring they're still active.

BTW, I noticed the footer at the bottom of DNForum still says "©2001-2023", so one might want to update that to 2024!

Hi

how you guys been doing and where the hell ya'll been hiding :)
glad to see you posting!

i suggested admin send out emails before removing accounts, so happy to see "20-year members" showing up.

imo...

A very smart suggestion. Provoked me into logging in and updating my profile. Hopefully receiving emails listing recent activity will spur me into interacting more often.

Can I ask what benefits exclusive members on this forum have carried over?

Hi,

Thank you for asking.

When we took over the DNForum last April - there were no benefits whatsoever to the members who in 1 or another way had received exclusive memberships (most were given away for free).

We did discuss with the members the best possible solution, and here it was found: https://www.dnforum.com/threads/an-important-note-on-lifetime-accounts.606305/page-6#post-2368775

Let me insert few quotes from previous conversations:

State of memberships when we took over DNForum (there are lots of questions to previous owners on why this was the case):
Hopefully, this helps for Transparency.

Here you can see what was offered to the DNF members by the previous owners (I am not informed who exactly sold these memberships to many of you):

View attachment 7729

--

The state of memberships BEFORE the DNF was passed over to us:

Screencast video for transparency to show that ALL the permissions for all 3 Lifetime memberships were already disabled in the settings:

The membership situation is an absolute mess! And nobody really cared to sort these out! Absolutely ridiculous!

Maybe @Furquan as the previous Super-Administrator, and also paid Epic employee for managing DNForum, can share more information?

--

The only thing we did in these "Group Permission": we disabled the signature feature for Free members, and around 1 week ago enabled signature features for all the Lifetime Members.

Before us, the signature options were also disabled for all the Lifetime user group options by previous owners. You were able to have signatures only because these were enabled for all the free general users.

...

And the decission:
[Update on the Decision]

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and listening to ours.

We will keep all the existing Lifetime memberships. The main part = all Lifetime members will keep their signatures.

Previously, Lifetime members did agree that 35% from the Sales of their products to the DNForum users will go towards the DNForum = this is removed as ridiculous.

This should close this topic. Thank you all, who participated by sharing constructive comments > as you can see, these were much needed.

...

In short:
1) You get a special badge (stripes)
2) You get a signature >>
Before us, the signature options were also disabled for all the Lifetime user group options by previous owners >> you were able to have signatures only because these were enabled for all the free general users.
3) And, of course, we will not go after 35% of sales that you make at DNForum

Does this help?

Some forums thrive on "being the largest" with quantity of users, but if you go profile by profile
https://www.dnforum.com/members/user.1/ by replacing 1 with +1 (2, 3, 4, ...), you can see the facade that user registrations are (at the largest forum).

Thank you. Well, Napros for sure are larger one today.

DNF is different :) User friedly (enforcing no-abuse) and we allow users to self-promote their domain name businesses :)
.. and, much older :)

"Four (4) score and seven (7) years ago and then approximately three (3) score and seven (7) years thereafter, a team of dedicated moderators brought forth on this domain, a new forum, conceived in JavaScript or something similar, and dedicated to the proposition that all users are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great time of need, testing whether that forum, or any forum so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great thread of that topic. We have come to dedicate a portion of that thread, as a final resting place for those who here gave their inactive accounts up to deletion that that forum might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate – we can not consecrate – we can not hallow – this forum. The brave users, active and inactive, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world wide web will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the active, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who posted here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that from these honored inactive we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion – that we here highly resolve that these inactive shall not have been deleted in vain – that this forum, under Admin, shall have a new birth of freedom – and that government of the users, by the users, for the users, shall not perish from the web."

This is your first post and to be honest I have no idea what you are taking about.
Can you translate to English?
