news Level Up on DNForum!

DNForum has not had levels set for a long while.

This changes today.

We've implemented an intuitive user title ladder based upon what everyone knows: Levels. Users of DNF will now be able to level up based on the messages posted to the forum. A level will indicate user activity on the forum and nothing more. As such, nobody should put full faith and confidence in a user's level when engaging in financial/transactions.

The current levels set on DNF, subject to change with user feedback, are as follows:

LevelMinimum Messages
New Member0
Level 15
Level 225
Level 350
Level 4100
Level 5250
Level 6500
Level 7750
Level 81000
Level 92500
Level 105000
Level 117500
Level 1210000
Level 1312500
Level 1415000
Level 1517500
Level 1620000
Level 1722500
Level 1825000
Level 1927500
Level 2030000

Now, level up! You can do so by merely replying to this announcement in acknowledgment of levels being added alone. Though, we ask you to level up on DNF in a meaningful manner that aides the community as a whole as we do have something in store for levels.

Exclusive Members have the ability to divert from standard leveling and set their own user title.

Looks like @Theo runs DNF being the only Level 20 account here! It's certainly duly earned with as much as he's shared over the 17 years he's been here.

Glad this was mentioned ”nobody should put full faith and confidence in a user's level when engaging in financial/transactions.”

Hi

DomainGang.com was once listed as an Industry Company on DNForum.
so Theo had his own section to post his headliners
ie: Go for the right NNNNNNNNNNumeric domain | DNForum.com - Buy, Sell, and Talk Domain Names

therefore, his numbers are going to be higher, that those members who didn't have same promotional opportunity.

take a look at @Duke aka Ron Jackson who would be at level 10 with 6088 messages

DNJournal Newsletter: Domain Sales Transactions Up 15% in 1Q-2012, Total $ Volume Dip | DNForum.com - Buy, Sell, and Talk Domain Names

both of them surely contributed to the forum, but you do have to consider those outliers.

imo....

DomainGang.com was once listed as an Industry Company on DNForum.
More industry leaders, and domain name investors that blog, are more than welcome to post on DNForum. We'll even accommodate them by creating a prominent banner for them with their custom company colors and/or change their ladder title to the company/position they hold.
therefore, his numbers are going to be higher, that those members who didn't have same promotional opportunity.
With this brought to the attention of the community, should these messages count in leveling up?

They add value by enticing a user to read more elsewhere but do not cover anything special that a visitor could get on DNF. These promotional posts could easily be deducted from the total message count when determining levels and their levels could significantly be reduced while the content never actually goes away.

My opinion on the matter is if they give a paragraph to promote an article, give us a unique perspective to go along with it that can't be read anywhere else so that we can discuss the two ideas in one thread. That would be valuable to all.
both of them surely contributed to the forum, but you do have to consider those outliers.
They all left relevant content on the forum that is applicable to this day, but it is a good point to separate the self/promotion from the juice of learning to the 24-hour "bumps" in sales threads.

Thanks for the input, @Biggie! There are plans for levels on the roadmap to the return of DNF's glory days, so we must address this issue as a whole.

I shouldn't have to mention this about feedback either. Personally, however, I rely on feedback, date of membership, messages, content ratios of likes, and whether the transaction is under a certain amount before bringing in escrow into the equation.

Wow, so the levels will increase with his profile development. It would take me a year just to reach level 5 :D
Maybe not, if you're active on DNF. There might be other ways beyond just posting that one could level up, such as certain tasks, i.e., an introduction an automatic level up, etc.
