Folks - we are in the middle of a major systems and infrastructure upgrade and migration into a new data center. within 30 days, you will see great improvement in speed and enhancements. The problems you are seeing now are not frequent and are part of the transition. We appreciate your consideration and understanding and support and you will continue to see good things coming.

Monte - why not send out an email notification to the members notifying them of the transition? It is frequent throughout the day. It comes any goes in 10-15 mins spurts. Getting kind of annoying over the last several days. Other than that the service has been great. Now its time to get a new account manager that actually responds to emails and I will be set.

P.S. thanks for stopping in to give us an FYI.

JDK - good point and suggestion...its just that we are starting to email out a lot and do not want to spam. with all the auction updates and the integration with Snapnames, there are also a lot of other great things going on. We have been trying to notify folks as the issues occur but it is hard to predict when the site will experience the slowness while we are testing and going through the various steps for this move. It is a MAJOR upgrade and move so appreciate all of you standing by. I promise it will get better than before and then you will all see some very cool stuff coming out as well which will help all.

A short announcement from the site would do the job instead of sending mass emails.

Thanks,
John

I guess this is a better than the emails. Perhaps inside the member area once you login.

I am hoping some focus will be diverted to the domain registration sector instead of 100% on the auctions ;)

We'll see how the upgrades go.

Then stop these marketing emails and get back to the real domain business.

It is actually shocking that you believe that an auction email is more useful than a downtime or upgrade email.
Simply shocking...

dvdrip - I never said an auction email is more useful than a downtime upgrade email. I said we are trying to avoid sending out email blasts and domain auctions and domain asset management are our business along with running a top registrar and domain services company. one is not instead of the other....just that the slow time and infrequent delays are not scheduled or planned....actually most have not even experienced a problem so its all a matter of account type, and timing.

In any case, I made a suggestion to my team to put up a notice and suspect that they will have something up soon.

Can you explain the different account types?

Yes you did. You said that you didn't send an email about this problem because you send too many auction and merger emails. That means auction emails are more important.

When domain auctions are affecting your primary business that is asset management then you have a problem. That is why you are no longer the top registrar and you are going downhill fast. When I joined you were the best but then your priorities shifted. Look at all the people complaining. Look at all the different problems you are having and take your head out of the sand before it's too late.

You hit the nail.

IMO they don't want users to know that there is a problem unless they are affected by this.

Now compare this to my host whom sent a NL last night about the few minutes downtime they had, the exact timing of happening, reasons for happening and how was fixed followed by apologies and a reminder is first in last 4 years. Is not as critical for a domain registrar as for a host but keeping customers informed always helps.

I do have to agree on this one. When you go to Moniker.com now, the main flash item is Auction this, Auction that. It's part of Moniker's/Oversse's business but not All of it.

The only time I get an email from my rep.. Auction this and that, Auction Deadline, last chance to bid, Upcoming Auction etc.

I never get an email from my rep about the repeated problems I was having with transfers that I used the ticket system for or thanking me for my business and if I had any questions to just let him know. No follow up email to make sure I wasn't still having any problems etc.

I know domain volume has been in the red for Moniker for a couple months now (since around 4/14/2008). The past 30 days changes, (New Registration,Transfers in, Transfers out & deleted domains) from Moniker.com is -13,380 as of yesterday's stats. When you see GoDaddy.com with 478,885 to the good the past 30 days, it makes you think.

Out of the top 10 domain registrars by volume only 2 had 30 day change numbers in the red. NetworkSolutions.com with -18,358 and Moniker.com with -13,380.

IMO, Netsol because of it's High domain prices and poor customer service (min of a 3 day reply). Moniker because of losing focus of being a registrar and putting more on auctions and slowly improving customer service.

I've been looking for a year to move my domains to Moniker and reading stuff like this prevents me from pulling the trigger.
one word of advice - unless u plan to implement ur own infrastructure (own dns, own email server, pls!!) - DONT!

Been down for me off and on basis for several days including today, or if I can login after many attempts the site is agonizingly slow taking forever to load pages.

Possibly the site is under attack as in the past there were only rare issues. Another possibility is they do not have sufficient bandwidth what with all the new domains there and the new content about the ongoing auctions and events.
attacks should result in perhaps slow servers. But shouldnt result in servers that dont work. Has anybody noticed? THe GD freakin' email forwarding no longer moves on any updates/changes. Oh, but the server responds promptly when you send an email to it, to tell u... "User unknown"!!!

I get good customer support from Moniker, and their prices are good. I think people complain too much. And when you contact your rep, dont send dozens more emails out of impatience either.

I do think the Moniker user interface leaves a lot to be desired. Enom is better and actually I like Godaddy a lot. At first Godaddy seems too complicated (and their cart checkout process is really overdone) but when you get used to it, the domain management is good. But no registrar has all the features we really need. The old Bulkregister was the best, but enom killed it. That was hard to see.

I did suggest to Moniker they redo their user interface, and consider hiring the guy that designed Bulkregister's, but never got a response on that!

Ideally, for the domain industry as a whole and from a mangement perspective, Moniker would split into two entities: auctions and domain management, and then build a domain registrar that had all the features domainers want. It seems so odd to me, that a mass-market site like Godaddy has more features than Moniker.

how nice. Did somebody even bother to freakin' tell me this? "Tech support" certainly didnt. My customer rep certainly didnt.

And now i have to go out of the moniker support system to be able to get a real "update" like this. You know what? I'm going to be going out soon. And i'm going to be spreading the word about this total lack of regard for said registrar's customers....

I certainly dont! (does anybody?)

But i bet this must be why these guys are so freaking slow. And tech support too. And my customer rep too. And the machines too. Yeah. This must be it.

Kevin, you are correct when you say some people complain too much, however, when things are down for a week then there is some explaining that needs to be done. If not, just fix the problem ASAP. If it can not be fixed in a few hours, then a response should be in order via email or the site notifying members there are upgrades and what problems they may experience. This does a couple things: A) Makes the customers feel they are appreciated enough to be notified an upgrade or system function is down B) cuts down on the number of emails the customers will send support.

Can I ask who your account rep is or who you speak with in support?

All in all, I have no complaints about Moniker, except for a little thing here any there which they fix quickly. Every company could work on some things i.e.) Support reply times :) but Moniker has been taking customers feedback and working with it.

We just need to get this move completed soon so Moniker can get back to its normal self.

OH and does anyone know how to get rid of the darn Unsecure message that comes up when searching for domain names?

Cust supt for me is normally good (especially if you call rather than use the sometimes buggy new ticket system which does duplicate tickets).

I must strongly disagree on the user interface leaving a lot to be desired, which I feel is amazingly good and by far the best interface and most comprehensive capabilities of the many other places I had accts at. There is no comparison because the Moniker CP is so superb vs others.

Another great value if letting us do domain tasting for 4-days which is hard to find benefit elsewhere.
