About a month ago I received a $70 high bid at auction on a .de.

The buyer paid on 3/17.

I received an email from sedo today (from [email protected]) that says:

Dear XXXXXXXXXX,

In order to transfer this domain to another registrar, it has to be cancelled at the current registrar which you have indicated to be XXXXXXXXXXXXX..

Therefore, we kindly ask you to complete and sign the attached form and send it back to us.

As soon as the domain has been cancelled, we will transfer it to our own registrar and process payment to you.

Thank you very much.

For further information please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Kind regards,

XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The pdf is a form authorizing that I CANCEL the domain, not transfer the domain.

after filling out ownership info the text reads:

To whom it may concern:

I hearby confirm I am the legal owner of the domain name stated above and would like to cancel my ownership of this domain as soon as possible. The cancellation of my ownership should allow the domain to be transferred to a new provider.

Is this correct? I send in paperwork to cancel my ownership, not authorize a transfer?

Thanks, the registrar is Godaddy if that makes a difference. The domain has been paid for 2 days shy of a month now and of course not a peep out of sedo.

That's a sneaky one. You cancel the domain so they can protest w/ Sedo then quickly backorder it or register it after the redemtion period (should be minimized when flat out cancelled).

Or, it would go to TDNAM and they'd snag it from there.

Yeah, this is looking more and more like a scam.
