I hope that whoever is responsible for these "scum bag" attacks are caught and sent to jail for a long, long time. They are no better then a criminal walking into a convenience store with a gun and a stocking over their head. Good luck to ND in your efforts to stave this plague of snakes.

Give it sometime.. Fab.. Ed mentioned that it will take a good few hours for them to resume normal Service.

DDOS has its positives .. companies can insurance against it, and it pushes companies to further invest in security and redundancy.

This was expected, as all PPC programs have been hit recently.. and they all have one thing in common is that the attack originates from the Eastern Hemisphere.

Unless its a one to one attack there is little or no way it can be traced without having friends in high places.

Think its time to call in the professionals. Tsutomu Shimomura would have them in a matter of hours. Or as ND is in the US contact Mitnick Security LLC.. I am sure Kevin could share his knowledge.. Actually that aint a bad idea perhaps you could give them a phone they do intrusion investigations.. They are out in Nevada now... Vegas I think..

Here is their number: 702-940-9881

Thanks DD.

Just to give everyone a brief update:

There is still a not insignificant amount of evil traffic coming in on our servers which isn't helping to reduce the lag when loading our parked sites or our homepage. Our CTO and his team have done away with non-essential things such as sleep and food and are working harder than I've ever imagined working to get everything back up again.
Thanks for the support and thanks NameStrands for the advice in the other thread. It is certainly an avenue which we would consider pursuing. We are certainly not short of legal firepower and we will definitely consider using it if we find grounds. This was a blatant attack designed to knock us out of the water, not temporarily like the big fish, but permenantly.
We're going to take measures to ensure this doesn't happen again, naturally.

I'll give you the all-clear when it's green light again.

Thanks for your patience.

I totally agree with domaindirk. We should post this on every domain forum, I think this is the very first time I read about a new parking program being attacked, and after 10 days of his launch. As Ed said, the smallest parking company currently on the market gets hit by a DDOS attack. Hmmm... there´s somebody very very worried about ND.

As domaindirk said, the attackers are snakes (and nothing but snakes).

NameDrive is like the Tardis. Not particularly huge on the outside but surprisingly large and intricate on the inside. We have excellent connections to People That Matter and we are certainly looking to find out who these snakes are and what can be done to put them in a sack and beat them with bats.

You will all be invited.

Update #2.

More important than the last update. We have closed down everything for a short time so that we can get everything back on its feet again without any traffic hitting our servers at all. This downtime will be kept to an absolute minimum of course.
We have the advantage of youth. Our brand spanking new system shouldn't have too much in it that needs to be straightened out, but we need to make sure everything is running smoothly, so thanks for your patience while we carry this out. Once it's done, the pages should be snapping onto the screen as bright and breezy as ever :)

Thank you, people.

As I mentioned to Sedo when they were attacked, you might want to consider Prolexic, used by many online casinos:

Ed, as you know, we're all behind you and NameDrive. Keep up the good work. I will keep people posted on the other forum regarding this malicious and pathetic attack. Hope all is well and it's great to hear amongst other things that you are looking after your customers by compensating - which obviously comes out of your own pockets as you're not actually making anything out of the DDoS attack. Well done to NameDrive.

Do you know how exactly you will compensate us? I know most of my revenue usually comes during 3am-3pm Eastern time...

Will you just bring the revenue totals to what they were yesterday or...?

A DDOS attack is truly a life threatening problem for a new company.

Fortunately, it happened during their infancy. And, they can be better prepared in the future.

I will test them once they get the site back up.

Am I understanding it correctly? They are mainly focused on European traffic.

not focused on Euro traffic.. in the beginning they were focusing on the European domainers due to the huge competition in the US market for PPC programs..

OutSide of this unfortunate attack I have seen my domains hit record level click throughs and revenue.. some I actually had to question as I could not believe I was getting so much... I was like are you serious.. it is suprising companies using the same feed provider can make such a difference .. I truly believe its NameDrives Focus on the related searches that is making for a huge turn around on clickthrough rate.

We all in the western hemisphere read from left to right and Like Domain Sponsor they have put the Related Searches on the Left Hand Side.. however what NameDrive appear to do is not only are the related keywords related but you will notice how human edited the keywords are and what a difference that makes..

So if you have loan then the related keywords are the top searches from places like overture and google sandbox..

Its impressive and makes such a huge difference.. I truly hope this human editing will be kept going..

Now I look forward to them getting back 100% and as you Said Act Now.. this happening early on should make them better prepared..

Normally I would drop like a hot cake.. but the communications channels have remained opened and I have been getting updates every few hours now, and of course the talk of compensation is always a bonus..

I think recent events has taught us all one thing and that is we need our PPC providers to have a redundant NameServers that could redirect users to a page if there is a problem.. as I know from experience if a page does not load then its unlikly I will return to it.. but if I see there is a problem then I will try again later.. I can only believe that this is the same for most surfers landing on my pages.

I would also like to See mailing list offered that informs us all of any issues or potential downtime.

We live in the information age.. and information and communication is the most important part of any Service.

Look forward to moving over some more domains..

I'll post this message on both of the ND threads: It seems such a pity considering McNameStrands post above:

It's been a couple of hours since everything was ballsed up. We may have the advantage of youth on our side, but we have also found that this was not just any DDOS attack.
It is becoming clear that this was a contract hit taken out on us designed to do us out of our livelihood and what we have spent so long to build up. We are contacting those people who need to be contacted about the necessary route to take legally-wise once this whole mess has been cleaned up.
I hate to say it, but we will be working on this for a while yet until it is up and running again at full capacity. I HATE to say it, but you are probably better off directing your names away from us for the short-term as we will probably be slow for a short while to come.
It is so fantastic that so many of you tried us out. This is a real kick in the teeth, but we will be back, fitter, stronger in a matter of hours, not days.

I could really be able to give the all clear in 30 minutes or 12 hours, it's hard to say. Our techs have been up for around 30 hours working on this. I just don't want to make the mistake others have made by saying 'stick in there, everything will be OK in 10 minutes... and then keep you holding on for 10 days...)

It is hard for me to turn people away after trying so hard to get you here in the first place!

If you do stay with us and have been with us for some time so we an gauge your average daily earnings, we will naturally compensate you if you stay with us through this.

Sorry people.

We'll see you in the corridors of NameDrive again soon

I like this atitude in a company. I've analysed 8 parking systems, and I will choose yours.
