A couple years ago, I thought SnapNames was expensive.

Boy! Have things changed!

Yes you explained it - but your explanation was not true. In addition, as you well know (and acknowledged in a thread here), your outbid function was completely broken so there was no evidence there either that someone placed a higher bid. I have received over a dozen complaints from others about this and all of my requests to higher officials at your company for an explanation were totally ignored. That doesn't do much to dispel the widespread belief in the domain community that NW has not always dealt buyers a fair hand.

I am hopeful this has finally been fixed in the new system. If it has not I am going to continue to hammer you unmercifully on it. There is NO justification for someone being shown as the high bidder on your system and then having the domain go to someone else.

If we are going to get a truly transparent system then I will be behind you 100%.

Late add: OK I see you posted this while I was writing:

If that is the case I'll be happy to shut up. :-D

The original Afternic was a Joke.

Great Domains is a Joke.

SnapNames is a Joke.

NameWinner is now a joke.

DnForum is sometimes funny enough to be a Joke, and gets funnier all the time. Thank God for his sense of humor.

Exclusive lifetime memberships are a joke. Everybody has a lifetime and if more than one person has this type of membership it's not exclusive. Joke

Pool is expensive but performs well, and the pricing isn't a joke because it's not funny.

WLS is probably a joke, we are just waiting for the punchline.

And finally, all us who have registered names just to sell are a joke, because the jokes on us. Afterall, who is fueling this flame?

On the brighter side, your current names should be going up in value, if they have any value.

On the other. The quality of your portfolios is more likely than not going to be diminished as you sell, and/or your costs of maintaing/improving it are going to skyrocket if that's your intent.

The drop- delete cycle is not a secret game anymore. It's big business with mega milliions behind it and it can and is being controlled. The wealthy have the advantage. Ordinary Joe will cry and nash his teeth.

Prediction.

John Q Public doesn't stand a chance with the current system, or WLS. It doesn't matter. The current system costs have gone up and the wealthy big B will grab all the WLS subscriptions ahead of time. Its a stupid lottery and he who has the most money can buy more tickets.

ANother Prediction.
The great majority of domain speculators will be wiped from the face of the earth, if they have any sense they wont fight it. I have seen lists of domains, hundreds, with maybe two decent names. I myself have let at least a hundered expire that shouldn't have been registered or even thought of. Thus, fee based forums like this will starve for paying members when there are free alternatives. Of course if you have a few people paying say, $400 each, that makes up for 8 Platties each. Nobody ever said God is stupid, I think he got an A in quantum mathematics.

Bottom line.

Your currnet name list is now more valuable, if it has any value, than it has been since the bubble burst. People are buying from the current holder now before expiration. Offers are coming in, because the chances of catching quality names on drop at reasonable prices are slim to none. Chances are slim even at inflated prices.

Since I always have liked to laugh, and make people laugh, I am glad to have been and continue to be part of this Big Joke. The domain name secondary market.

Hey Those fraud bidded names that NW caught a few months ago and promised an auction have been deleted from my manage list. Where did they go, and when is the promised auction?

I could come up with a more complicated system, but it wouldn't be an auction system, so nobody would want to implement it anyway. :-(

Let me see if I am understanding this correctly.. after I have become high bidder and the name has actually been deleted and You..namewinner.. have picked up that drop for me.

clear my throat...instead of placing the name in my account..you are going to let other people pay $50 and rebid for a name I already won..

Is that correct

...only if a successful bid is placed on a domain between 12:45 PM and 1:00 PM Eastern Time the day it drops and a bid is placed during the Extended Bidding Period.

Why bid in the first round anyway then, if this is the case, there is no sense in bidding, more than one time if the name will start at the highest bid and people can then pay $50 to get in on the auction. Wait till the last 15 minutes, place a bid, then the auction starts anyway. Not a bad strategy by NW actually, the way the bids have been going through the roof lately. Two auctions for each name, will give bidders two chances to get caught up in the heat of last minute bidding. Why not make it 3?

compliments on the design. the rollovers should be preloaded though.

critisims have to go out to the auction situation. I don't want people bidding on names I fairly won in the pre-drop auction. I also liked the $8.95 pick ups, but most of those were bidded on within a few days of dropping.

There goes SnagAName's usefullness in that regards!

One question: in the bidding table it gives you the base prices at various time intervals. With less than 20 hours it is $25 for example. But I cannot find anywhere that says 20 hours to WHAT TIME? Is it 10AM (the end of normal bidding), 10:15AM (the end of extended bidding) or 11am (the time the deletion process actually starts)?

More simply, when does the final 20 hours begin - 2pm the day before, 2:15pm or 3pm (all Pacific times)?

NOT true. I've been using NW for years, and it will not accept bids under $15 from me.

How do you add names with this new site? All I see is how they let you search for a name that is expiring in 1 to 5 days and then you bid on those.

If you charge more for bids on names that are dropping in 4 days or less, we should be able to add any name in the redemption period.

For example, if you type in something like namebutlers.com (currently in the redemption period) I dont see anywhere to bid on it because it says "No matches were found".

Am I missing something here?

Nope I don't think you are missing something unless I am as well. Also I tried putting in a few .org's that drop tomorrow. Same result "No matches were found."

Ohhh well Namewinner WAS nice.

Oh man.

To say the new system is confusing is not true.

Truth is, it's CONFUSINGLY confusing - i just don't get it.

Also, although i am a long time customer at NW, when trying to insert a name that is in pending delete, it told me my current bid would not meet the minimum bid - although it had that default(?) $15 in the input field. So i clicked on "view" and it showed $25 minimum required.

What's up with that?

I thought we were grandfathered?

Also, why is it not possible to look up the minimum bid as soon as you have added a name to your "watch list" (i had to use the "back" button of my browser to go back to adding process to view minimum bid)?

Geez - how come everyone and their mother seems to think making it more difficult for their customers is the new way to go lately(NW,snapnames etc.etc) ?
