That is the problem..even though they KNOW who it is they make it difficult to transfer. Please re-read Bobs post.

Yes, I agree Bid - the domain owner's wishes should be respected and acted upon immediately. As I said I have done no outbound transfers there yet, so have no personal experience to comment on.

It is however a fact that domain theft is becoming a major problem and some of the current registrars a lot of us favor are not doing a good job of protecting domains. How come Enom never even bothered to tell DCC that secretary.com was being taken out of his account?

For valuable names I may start looking for an extra level of protection. If a vendor combines that level of protection with hassle free action on an owner's requests I think that would be a combination many would value - whether it is from Moniker or someone else.

The safer the better, imho, so long as emails sent are replied. I think the issue here was Moniker ignores you completely.

I was using Domainsytems.com and all of a sudden they posted this crude that you "HAD" to move all your domains to Moniker ..what the heck was that all about Monte .

"As a result of your continued support and strong recommendations, DomainSystems has acquired www.Moniker.com. Moniker.com is an ICANN accredited Registrar and has enabled thousands of customers over the past four years.

As of February 4th, 2003, all domain registrations and renewals will be processed through Moniker.com. "

so whats the story ? Here you are today claiming people can use Domainsystems.com ..but yet domainsytems.coms still has instructions not to use..in fact "***** REQUIRED ACTIONS FOR ALL CUSTOMERS *****
o instead go to Moniker.com..

http://domainsystems.com/cgi-bin/upgradeToMoniker.cgi

When I didnt want to go to Moniker ... I was pressure and had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get away from you guys..

And Now I see you today telling everyone to "Remember that we run DomainSystems.com and change ownership on domains daily. "

So why do you have instructions telling everyone they are "required" to leave domainsytems and use Moniker?

I agree DNMole.. and in fact it would be an excellent service..the higher security" ..

but the problem is out you pointed out ..is that Moniker and at one point before Domainsytems FINALLY added a push feuture...........was they simply ignored your transfer request..

Seems to be just the opposite - that they were talking too much! You can't be trying to convince people to stay if you are not answering their emails. :-D

Dont get me wrong I fully agree any company that takes steps for Higher security is welcomed and worth paying a premiunm for(for your higher quality names )..

but this company(domainsytems when I was using them) has a track record of simply ignoring transfer request and when you finally do reach someone they give you the run around AND pressure sales tactics..and I think that is a shame coming from them. ..because of their early success and a lot of people were "happy" for them and their early success

Remember that before Moniker, we were a reseller of various systems. The problems you experienced in the past, were not those of domainsystems, but from the other registrars I referenced above. Now that Moniker has the push domain feature, the original issues that you experienced from the other registrars that you were dealing with through us (I presume you were using Itsyourdomain) are no longer present. We had to help as many customers out of ItsYourDomain as fast as possible due to their unethical business practices and the reason for moving everyone over to Moniker.

Also, if your emails were never responded to, that is a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Let's not get the issue confused here. Changing ownership is simple, safe, and secure. Transferring domains from any registrar to another registrar requires extra steps such as authorization by registrant, authorization by loosing and gaining registrars, and registry initiation of such authorizations. Although it seems like it should be a simple process as a customer, it is actually rather involved an prone to errors. This is why we have this simple two step security process in place.

Bid, I strongly suggest you give us another try, I predict you would be rather impressed with how Moniker works rather than referring to old experiences that you had in the past with DomainSystems as a reseller. This is one of the primary reasons we purchased the registrar and have earned the high profile and important clientele that we have.

I will offer you my personal assistance to work through any issues you may have had or have in the future.

MCahn:

I too am having trouble buying this 'security issue' story.

"Personalprescripton.com" is in my eNom account. Yes, it's a worthless typo. PLEASE STEAL IT FROM MY ACCOUNT without my assistance.

Let me know when it's in your account so we can all do a WHOIS, and either congratulate you or call your bluff.

Sure JuniperPark,

That would really win the respect of all of you - If I steal your name when I am preaching security.

Better idea is move all of your names to Moniker and never have a name stolen! I would rather be on that side of the table.

Thanks for the opportunity. Next time at least give me a good name to take.

Take Care

Now wait just a minute... is there some PROBLEM with taking the name from my account? This is your WHOLE argument here, that names at eNom and other places are not secure. I am rolling out the red carpet to let you prove it. If eNom is not secure, it doesn't matter how valuable the name is. Nobody's going to call you a thief, I am making a "public" invitation right here, right now.

Will 7 days be enough for us all to do a WHOIS check? Or are you now throwing up your hands because your bluff has been called?

1) Let's not encourage hacking.
2) You are on notice, so it is not a true test anyway.
3) Double security doesn't mean that single security is hackable, it just means that double is even less hackable.

Update:

TotalNIC has agreed to manually release registrar-lock on the domains purchased through Snapnames 60 days after purchase (rather than 150 days).

1) The implication of mcahn's posts here are that domains can be transferred WITHOUT hacking and without knowledge of the real owner. Obviously if someone figured out my registrar account password (hacking) or my ISP email password (hacking), they could get my domain. But that's NOT what he's suggesting... he's saying there is an inherent flaw in the system that allows the transfer. I'm calling his bluff.

QUOTE: "... I personally know that someone can hijack a domain out of each of these other systems even if your domains are locked at the registry." Statements like that need to be backed up by PROOF.

2) If mcahn is correct, I won't be notified about the transfer, so why isn't this a good test?

3) Read his quote... that *IS* what he is saying.

The point of this post was about Moniker.com's transfer process and why there is an extra step involved. I have taken the time to address this issue with all of you who questioned it.

Our extra step (notification of transfer out by registrant contact) is put in place for the reasons of security, not to make it a pain or try to keep names from transferring out. Although we always attempt to contact the domain holder if they are leaving to retain their business, we never hold names up on purpose.

My point was about security and protecting against theft. We have not lost a domain to theft and every other registrar that I mentioned (and almost every other registrar that I know of) has lost domains to theft. Our high emphasis on security prevents these actions. No one wants their domains stolen - even if it is to PROVE a point. If I had your ID and password I could steel your domain from every registrar that I know of. At moniker, if you had an accounts password and ID, you cannot steel the domain - I would say that's a pretty good security blanket and system regardless if it's a little pain to move your domains away.

The other point I wanted to make is that I/we are responsive to our customers and the reason for taking the time to address this issue. Unless I am missing something, I do not see many of my counterparts addressing complaints and issues in too many forums.....

Thank You.

That's a fact. I can't even get them to address my complaints when I contact them at their offices! :-D

Dont worry too much about domains not being stolen from you...your time will come :-D

Zorro,

Moniker has been an ICANN Accredited Registrar since Jan. 1999. We manage some of the most important domain inventories for both individual and corporate clients including, Disney, Ultimate Search, BuyDomains, DomainDeluxe, NHL, JupiterMedia, Bank of America, Lions Gate Entertainment, At Home Liquidating Trust, and many more.

BTW, I am still praying and I have been married for 4 years!

my dealings with monte [and Moniker in general] have all been great and he seems like one of the most helpful domain professionals i've dealt with. i have a small but growing number of domains at moniker and their systems work well. i have no intent to move domains away, but it i ever do (or have a buyer that wants to transfer out) i'm confident that i'll get it done, even if i pay a small time penalty for more robust security.
