Wow,

I had no idea this name would go this high. I just bought the snap on it a month or so ago because I had plans to develop it.

Oh well, I bet BuyDomains comes in now and beats everybody.

There is no doubt that people at NW get caught up in the bidding frenzy and run prices up far more than they would otherwise. I ran across a name last night that had no Snap on it. Decent .com that is in one of my specialty areas. So I decided it was worth one of the discounted ($39) Snaps I had laying around. I also went over to NW and found it had an $8 bid on it. I bid the $25 and then forgot about it. Just checked back and it ran up to $222 at NW before bidding closed. Those same bidders could have the Snap last night for 20% of that amount. I'm still waiting to see if I got it.

This senario happens a lot actually. I've bought many snaps a few days before. It's mainly b/c some people try to see if the name will fall under the radar and don't want to spend the extra money at the time. But later after someone buys the snap it makes them want it even more and they realize namewinner may be their only choice (especially buydomains).

Clem,
You are totally correct.

But, it really doesn't matter if you get a Snap. I think Snap has been 1 for 8 over the past week for me including today on mediocre names
.
(Today, I had a Snap on RentNames.com and CarLots.net. And, I did not get it. NW 8.75 & 25.)

I see where the NW gets into the hundreds of ( or more) dollars and the Snap gets it. I don't believe that has ever happen for me.

Ok, I was talking about.....

namemart.com

It was just $30 to $40 last night!

Since I have not received an email from Snap Names yet and I don't see Pending in NameWinner, it looks like BuyDomains got it after all:mad:.

The way to find out if buydomains got it is to go to their website and search for the name you were after. If it appears there then they got it b/c they don't waste any time in listing it the same day.

I received a name at DomainsToBeSeen.com yesterday with a snap but have yet to receive an email or any type of login information myself. Even the whois does not reflect my information yet.

Well, wait a second:).

I still have not received an email confirmation from SnapNames, but I went to my account just now and it says that my snap on NameMart.com now has no exchanges (it had 3 last night) and I can no longer clear the snap.

Does this mean that the snap went into effect and I got it?

Excellent:). Thanks, actnow.

Still no email though. What is the longest that it usually takes?

NameMart.com is a nice name, but $2500? NameWinner bids are totally out of hand.

Yes, they are. I have no clue why it went that high.

BTW, just got the email:).

Congratulations Ogre - that is a great score for the price of a Snap! Snap came through on my domain too - beating the $222 NW bid for eJournalism.com. Didn't get the email until about an hour ago. I was due after losing three straight Snaps on good 3-letter domains (two to Buy Domains and one to DropCatcher).

Nothing is more frustrating that taking a Snap and sitting with it for 3 months, only to lose the name on drop day, but I have to admit that almost all of my favorite names were gotten for me by SnapNames (in this case SnapNames resellers Snaps.com).

Congrats to you too then, Duke:). Looks like a great day for Snaps.

I got this one through Snaps.com too. $43 definitely beats paying $2556 (which think the final bid was). In fact, this is probably my best day in this industry so far:).

Now the big question is whether I should develop NameMart.com, like I originally planned to, or sell it to one of the people who bid it to the moon on NW. I wonder if one of those bidders will contact me tommorrow when the WhoIs gets updated. Should be interesting:).

Don't expect to hear from anyone. It has always been of source of amazement to me. I have gotten many names that other people bid up on NW, but none of those high bidders has ever contacted me though in many cases I would have been happy to give them the name for what they bid. I think after a good night's sleep they realize they got carried away with the bidding! :)

It looks like I am still a contrarian. For the past three days, I have ended up with almost nothing.

Like Duke mentioned, It is very frustrating to plan for months covering all bases to get a particular name and end up with nothing.

Fortunately, the names I have been going after for the past week are mediocre.

Congrats Ogre and Duke on some fine catches for the missy.

Namemart and eJournalism.com have some pretty doeable business models behind them.

Yea, it is always a good idea to have a backup when you want to develop a business around a certain name.

For example, I beat a snap this week at NameWinner when I got NameCart.com. If I had not got NameMart.com, I would have developed NameCart instead.

BTW, the owner of the snap for NameCart.com contacted me the very next day and wanted to buy it from me. That is why I had a feeling someone may contact me for NameMart. It might not be for $2500, but I would be surprised if did not get a single email about it. However, I still could be wrong.
