Am I the only one who really likes this name?

The gambling industry is all about brands, and this name probably gets some leakage traffic from Power9Poker.com and PaddyPowerPoker.com so would make sense if one of these two has bought it (as mentioned above) - they can carry on branding their own name, relaxed in the knowledge that they are no longer losing traffic to PowerPoker.com - and $160k to these guys is peanuts; just reduces their tax liabilty.

Wow, the atmosphere here is really friendly :)

Anyway, Jasdon11, I really like this name, too. I find it not the least bit odd that an amazingly great domain name like PowerPoker.com would sell for $160k.

The name has searches with extension, and is sure to have some nice type-in traffic, and poker type-in traffic can be incredibly valuable. Plus, it's memorable and a great brand.

$160k is small change for the big players in the Poker market.

I don't dispute that money changed hands. But the sale for that name for that much money is bogus as in an orchestrated sale. Traffic is redirect at best and dropping fast. Someone attributed my reaction to the sale as jealousy. No! I make a very comfortable living. Nothing impressive to boast about. Nothing to be jealous towards others, when they make a sale, either.

Just that there are too many orchestrated sales in the industry to inflate values, get tax benefits or reasons I don't have time to debate. Don't count on your similar portfolios getting an immediate boost due to sales like these. You will get the same question - Traffic/revenue????

My comment caused a reaction. So let me do what ya all do...

Wow! Nice sale. Congrats!

Unless you've got some insider info that the rest of us don't have, you are just speculating and being alarmist.

I've sold two poker domains that weren't nearly as good as this one, one for high 4 figures, the other for low-mid 5 figures. If I owned pokerpower.com, er powerpoker.com (both are good), I would expect it to fetch at least mid-high 5 figures to basically whatever the buyer was willing to bear. As others have pointed out, $160k is peanuts to a lot of these operators.

Traffic and revenue play little part in a lot of domain sales when talking about branding specifically and that is what this is surely about.

Fatbat,
I agree, I don't have insider info. To me it seemed and still does appear BOGUS. So, I spoke my mind. The fact that you attributed that to being Jealous was childish at best.

OK, all is good in the domaning world...

The bigger the sale the better.

As is typing "bogus" without sharing your reasoning behind arriving at such a conclusion. Now that you've told us why, I can respect that a whole lot more. I'm not looking for a pissing match, I think we're cool now.

Or premiumpoker or premierpoker or pixelpoker or 1ampoker or...

Why not? It all comes down to brand development. If someone wants to call themselves "Power Poker" they don't have a whole lot of choices when it comes to their domain name and the guy holding it pretty much has them at his mercy.

No, no term in poker called Power Poker, nor is there Carbon Poker, Full Tilt Poker, Poker Stars, Absolute Poker, Party Poker, Pacific Poker, Titan Poker, Duplicate Poker, Hollywood Poker, Everest Poker, etc. etc. etc.

I think Power Poker is, IMO, a better name than most of these established brands.
