I do not know whether this is common in Europe, but in Russia a very popular way is to block the domains of the competitors with the help of spam. More already wrote here.
The idea is that to send out spam with a link to the competitor's website. The site falls into the black lists, and domain blocking registrars.
Tell me, please registrars that are not blocked for spamming. Or how can you fight it?
