I notice more and more folks are putting more than one link in their signature, and they all look really good, and are kept to 4 lines or less.

Thus, can the rule of only 1 link be relaxed/eliminated:

"Your forum signature may not exceed 4 lines in length, and may contain no more than one link. "

Appears to be a rule that has never been enforced as I see a lot of multiple signatures. I wouldn't see anything wrong with multiple sigs within the 4-line rule if it doesn't cause the forum any problems. I like to see what enterprises the various posters have developed. Up to the owner of course.

I guess it's even WORSE for rules NOT being enforced than simply having bad rules.

Would like to hear from gregr or other Mods.

Right, it'd be nice to be able to see the various websites that members have, at a glance.

George - YOU have one of the BEST "signatures" here in the Forum!! Highly visible, uniformly colored ... and with two (2) 'links ("Home Page" and "E-mail").
Will you now be banned ... or, more likely, will I (for pointing it out)?? LOL. :)
Good Luck.

Probably a good idea to keep it, but interpret it sensibly. If you relax it, people will start putting 3 or 4 links there. The next stage would be banner ads, which will up the bandwidth cost presumably (unless they were hosted remotely).

We have always enforced the 4 lines of text rule - however the link rule has indeed been relaxed in the past.
As of now - that will no longer be the case.

Everybody is allowed only one link. If you have more - get rid of them. This applies to everybody - including the mods and Greg himself. There will be no exceptions.

You can of course list your other sites in your signature - but no more than one actual link. We don't want to see any spam affiliate links either. Those will not be tolerated.

This is the rule. The immediate & strict enforcement of this rule begins now. This comes straight from the top. This is not open to discussion. Please make any necessary changes. Thank you for your cooperation.

Just to be sure, an e-mail address (mailto) won't count as a link, right? (I had asked that months ago, that's why my signature is the way it is now, with only the homepage website link).

Nevermind --- Greg said 'email' doesn't count as a link, so I'm safe. No shoving in extra links, though (and I had the colours all picked out!).

You're lucky you got that last second reprieve George. Popper was organizing a posse to hunt you down and string you up on the nearest tree! :)

Sorry if I ALMOST got you in trouble, George! :) But, as you mention ... an "e-mail" link is NOT a link insofar as this Rule! Excellent. Again, you have a GREAT sig!

PS. Duke - Nice job on yours recently, as well. This thread proved helpful, indeed.

Correct - one email link is also allowed.

So your sig can have one url - and one email link. :)

For all the link hogs out there - you need to change your signatures now. I dropped mine down to only one - and I was still the moderator at the time - so there are no exceptions. This is not aimed at just people in this thread - but this is the most appropriate place to post it because of the title. Everybody in the forum needs to comply with this rule.

1 url link - and 1 email link. :)

changed:)

if im honest im totally puzzled by this rule - although i had 6 links (not 8;)), the size of the text was small and only spanned 2 lines

why is this not allowed but a sig in big writing which spans 4 lines with only 1 link but text to several sites is allowed

neither increases or reduces bandwidth - its only text afterall - and if anything - 2 lines, regardless of the number of links is better than 4

from an admin point of view - i think its a contridiction of terms
the signature can be a powerful way to market sites and i always visit other members site listed on their sigs - i dont want other members to limit their number of links as much as me limiting mine - for example - if i want to visit namepoppers sites i have to copy and paste the domain onto the browser address bar instead of just clicking a link

just my 2 dnf$ :D:D
