nobody runs live auctions and conferences to get an $xx,xxx commission off of one or two deals. you dont even break even at the end.
when you have some time, crunch up some numbers in regards to all of the expenses and efforts involved... you will see, it quickly adds up well into 6 figures
Well, mike, I was guessing that the costs of the TRAFFIC Conference/venue/food etc would largely (if not all) be covered by the revenue generated from ticket sales to the Conference + sponsors' fees etc
...The expenses related to running the two auctions (including the auctioneer) would easily be covered by that one big commission from LongIsland.com....(plus, of course, don't forget the commissions he made on several high sales at the Live Auction, too - eg $214,000 for LoanCalculator.com).
I'd be surprised if, overall, Rick didn't at least break even on the overall event (probably, actually made good money) - despite the online fiasco of the Live Auction, and, the disappointing results from the Extended Auction.
In the glory days of 2007 - when TRAFFIC auctions were selling a bundle - the organisers would have made a motza (Aussie word for 'huge amount'...).
