Just registered an interesting .ca, it looks like there is a .com site for it thus the popularity - don't want to give out the name but it is made up of pretty ordinary words. Anyway, the first day got 100 views, second day got 400 views and the third day (today) is getting about 400 as well. Pretty neat for a fresh registration - it also has an OVT w/extension value. Be nice if the traffic stays up.
Cheers!
Rob

That's partly what makes investing in fresh reg .ca's sort of fun and in turn worth doing.

Reg it - park it - instant type-in traffic. Another reason I love .ca!

Any worries about trademarks, or are the words too generic? How does the traffic convert?

BTW - just noticed another .ca sale on Afternic now - xogen.ca for $600.

I don't think so - Converts at about 30%.
Yes, nothing better than a fresh reg that pays for itself in 2 days.

Thanks,
Rob

that was at sibername Roy. I couldnt believe it.. I cant imagine who would put that kind of money up for it outside of an end user. And I doubt it was the olgc.

Update.. Eby got my mothers given name. Its even an uncommon way to spell it. Lynda.ca

So far I got:
HostNetwork .ca (low on my list/filler)
VideoPalace .ca (filler)
FloristDirect .ca (my first floral domain)
CanadaComics .ca (sweet.. not alot of money but a market im directly assosiated to)
CanadianView .ca (sweeter even)
F-word-> ****Yeah .ca (I dont know why.... boredom perhaps?) censorship is so 50's TV, make it stop.
HavingSex .ca (another 'don't know why')
HomeCraftsman .ca (I can dev this easily)
AdMailer .ca (filler)

Some others in post bidding as well. Strange I ordered 30 names and even where i bid high only my bottom bids made it. You'll find whn some registrars lose a week or two in a row they flip it the next week and strike at the easy grabs for the quick revenue.

What names did the rest of you canuckleheads get ?

olgclotteries.ca 1139 December ovt with ext.

After last night's domain sales report there is more interest in .ca than I thought, and more xxx to xxxx sales than I thought too. It might get more people into the market, or make the bidding more competitive. The prices seem to be all over the place, names going for more than I thought they could, and vice versa... no pattern or logic to it at all...

I got the outstanding world renowned town of spuzzum .ca

I got squat everywhere else - someone bid up my top bids on sibername this morning while I was at school. Lost a couple there - oh well - more money for next week!

privatesecurity.ca - last week went for $99! I forgot I could bid on it. Anyone here get the nice gift I left them?

OK, so I am pretty sure this happened again... I had bids in on a couple of names at Sibername and I never received an email saying I was out bidden. I expected to get an email saying TBR dmains to pay... I did not get that email so I assumed that Pool likely got the names. Then I go and check the whois and it says:

WTF? This has happened to me before with Sibername, do they just decide to keep certain names for themselves?

Sibername does not instantly regg the domain into your name - after payment they will do a CIRA transfer - have you checked your Sibername "bid list" to see if you won the auction on that name - I just recieved my e-mail from Sibername to pay this morning

My Bids List shows empty... :greenconfused:

Update - I emailed ther support and got this response back:

Hello Peter,

The domain is registered for you.

Please check the following URL 3 hours after TBR session to pay for you domains:

http://sibername.com/tbr/topay.php

Best Regards

Eugene

So I did get the name, I am happy about that...

It seems to me that this process never works the same way twice... what a crazy system...

On the control panel after you log in there is a link

Back order a .ca Domain Name
CA domain auction service

Last TBR Session Results

Your back orders list

Domain names: payment due

Learn more about back ordering a .ca domain name
Our back ordering policy

Notice the link that say Payment Due. Check that around 2-3 hours after the drop and your domains will usually show. If not then by the next morning for sure as they usually process the C/C's overnight.

Sibername has their own way of doing things. They're good at getting names if you bid high. Understanding the UI will make things go easier for you.

things to watch with sibername:

• double dipping credit cards
• the registrants cira login information.

I have a beef with those two issues. When I first used them, they would asign me an entire new registrant id.. will have my name and address but will show their email. Now that gets changed for you but the security issue i see here is that for a day or even a month, their email was the cira contact, giving anyone who has access to it your cira password. A registrar cannot lose your names, they cant even move them in the event you die or forget about one. Only you (the registrant) is supposed to have access to the cira user login for any domain. Anyhow, on sibernames login area you can reguest your cira password, it will be emailed to the address in the whois. the email is always sibernames to start. I dealt alot with sibername, they do good work. But I don't trust them. Even that contact address is a virtual office (40$ a month for that Slater Street P.O.Box). The two companies i dont trust and happen to have alot of success, are sibername and pool. I use them as little as I have to even if it means losing out on the occasional domain.

Interesting post. I've had the same problems particularily with the double dipping of the C/C's.

To add to the list it turns out that if you buy a domain from another Sibername client it gets transferred into your account BUT it still shows in the seller's account after. Although it shows the new registrant the old seller still has access to the whois which means they could amend it and obtain the CIRA password for your entire account and EMPTY IT :upset: :upset: :upset:

I've told Eugene last week in no uncertain terms to fix it or lose our portfolio.

I'd also add the changing of the nameservers during registrant transfers or the failure to update (even with a pro forma for the account) during the transfers of the TBR's. The name servers remain Sibernames.

Still they get the names and I just grit my teeth sometimes. :sigh2:
