They claim to have 35,000 domain names....that get 6 million visitors a month. (170 visitors average per url).

QUOTE:
Domain Monetization

The role of the domain monetization department is to convert the traffic of roughly 6 mln visitors, which our domains receive every month, into a steady stream of revenue. Our domain portfolio currently consists of around 35,000 domains of which nearly 60% are gTLDs, while the remainder comprises of various ccTLDS, with a primary focus on .co.uk and .de domains. Our portfolio provides Elephant Orchestra with sufficient revenue to rank our company among the top earning partners of the lead players in the domain industry including Oversee.net, NameDrive and Sedo.

The Domain Monetization department strives to constantly increase the revenue brought in by our domains. In 2009 alone, we witnessed a revenue increase of 30% compared to the last months of 2008. We aim to improve our revenues by a further 30% by the end of the year. Although intensive investment and acquisition efforts undertaken by Elephant Orchestra in the past few months remain the key factor behind our growth, a significant part of it occurs organically, being driven by extensive efforts to increase the yield of every domain through optimization and methodical selection of advertisers.

I am the one that blogged about him, and I wasn't compensated in any way.

I'm still waiting for his name and what his top ten names are. Do you have this information?

Not my job to give that information. If you think he's full of sh*t, then don't read his blog.

1) Never said he was full of shit.

2) I don't read his blog.

If JP is correct and he's made most of his money from TM's he shouldn't brag about it. Better to keep his mouth shut and stay under the radar. Don't you think?

Not my business what someone shares or doesn't, and I can't speak to what his domain names are or what his business model is. I think it's pretty clear from his articles that he knows what he's talking about and has some good insight into this business. I think he gives good insight from a unique perspective.

That happens to anyone/everyone that knows how to make money, especially when they get confronted with too many stupid questions.

The irony is that when people blog about their successes and what they are doing, some people assume "the persons full of shit" and when they blog about things going on in the domain business, people assume they are just posting "the same old stuff over and over."

You get what you pay for I suppose :)

Elliot, I believe (based on what I am hearing and reading, and not necessarily first-hand knowledge) the reason Mr Barta and his blog are getting such scrutiny and negativity is because of it being widely alleged a large percentage of his revenue and domains are trademark related. This is a similar scenario to all the negativity about Kevin Ham when it was learned he was making big money from a special deal with the nation of Cameroon .cm country code domains, which were in-effect .com typos, much of which was probably trademark I imagine.

You are on the right trail David, when I "said full of shit" I was referring mainly to how they started out or their secret to success. If you believe it was accomplished without tm's, on just a credit card and a dream etc you would be very naive to say the least. Now there are many success stories out there that did start small but when I say I used a credit card yet spent millions in the same year either someone needs to call me on that or I need to get told to get to... well you get my drift.

Eeveryone loves a success story but the details usually are not that glamorous. I especially like the bunches who socialize like crazy at all functions, throw out 2-3 names which are 5 figs maybe and become experts, get stories on dnj and get looked up to.

To me the real successes are the avergae Joe who didnt have big backing, didnt have to base it all on tm's and isnt affraid to be honest. Actually Elliot you are one of the people I admire, you are an open book and example of successes and struggles mixed with good comentary. So what I get for free from you Elliot is worth more ;)

everybody can pretend to be angels... but really, a huge majority of domainers who got started in the biz early on... 2001, 2002... even 2003, 2004......... had some what you can call "problametic" registrations... it was really a no brainer and easy $$$

you can call it whatever you want nowadays, even though they washed their hands clean by getting rid of it (selling off for huge profits or first profiting from ppc $$ then dropping) but it is what it is

iv had this questionable dealings and wont deny it... i am sure if you dig deep enough, you can find some dirt on everybody... including some of those in this thread complaining ;)

other big boys... oversee, many top 10 - 20 registrars.... hell, even FABULOUS.COM lol :(

..........the biggest

and the best

... things arent always what they seem

The exception is always refreshing :) Me thinks most would agree that money buys freedom but not happiness...giving/offering value is the sweet spot, just not always easy in such a competitive industry.
