Okay, so 2011 will apparently see the opening of the world's first commercial spaceport in New Mexico, with Virgin Galactic.
They have been taking reservations since 2005, and originally hoped to be running the first commercial space flight in 2011. They haven't revised that estimate, but from progress I would guess it would be more like 2012.
Nonetheless, we're still close. There are already a few hundred resellers across the world registered to sell tickets (go here and scroll down to 'Accredited Space Agents'), and I'm sure that number will sky-rocket once the maiden voyage has touched down safely.
Elsewhere, the band Muse are reportedly in conversation with Virgin Galactic, looking into performing the first ever gig in space. Sadly, they plan to return to Earth at the end of it, otherwise I would have funded it myself.
So, it would appear (to me, at least) that we are finally standing at the foot of a new era of commercial spaceflight. Assuming someone takes a financial defibrillator to the corpse of our global economy over the next few years, I can see there being a fairly large move toward commercial space tourism; first as a luxury, then as a gimmick/novelty/perk/prize and later as a commonplace 'rite-of-passage'.
I believe that in 4-5 years' time, weddings in space will be the next big thing, and that in 20 years' time they'll be tackier than getting married by Elvis on the fifth floor of a casino hotel.
My prediction is that domain values will go the way anything in demand does- as resellers emerge, demand will increase. This seems certain to me but I'd love to hear others' thoughts.
On the other hand, I also think that good keyword names will have excellent adsense potential- flights are currently $200,000 so I guess the advertisers will be willing to pay a high CPC as the market fills and the industry begins to mature.
So, the TL;DR is: What are your predictions for space-related domains this year? Do you have any in your PF, and if so, are you developing them for keywords or just hanging on for a decent sale?
