i ws using razino.com to test a skin i was making when i owned the licence and i sold comp-forums to computerproblems which was using my vb but vb wasnt included in the sale and he merged his forum and mine together and obviously doing that for some reason showed jelsoft that hes using my licence when he wasnt

When you sold me the forums, these are the steps that were taken:

I did not purchase the VB license from razino, as I had an extra one in my account, and was one of the conditions of terms of sale. Once the site was sold I went into the vb member area and configured one of the vb licenses to use on comp-forums.com. After doing this we changed the license number in the config.php file to reflect the changes made.

From there we merged the comp-forums.com site into the computerproblems.org site. Once the merge was complete a redirect was setup for comp-forums.com to go to computerproblems.org, and the files related to comp-forums.com were taken off our server.

So I don't know where we got involved in using your license for our sites. I have offered to show Mr. Webname our vb member area, and he can confirm with Jelsoft if need be that the licenses were purchased before the sale of this site to me, and can also confirm the history of the licenses with jelsoft.

This type of situation illustrates why I personally avoid selling content whenever possible; often times the buyer doesn't want it anyways ...

With that said, if one is going to sell a vBulletin-based message board, the seller should either:

A. Require buyer to purchase a new license from vBulletin - this way there's no question as to who owns what; seller deletes their old license so there's no confusion.

-or-

B. Transfer the license before hand in an official manner as prescribed by vBulletin (Jelsoft), including getting an acknowledgement from Jelsoft ... merely updating the license ownership information is *not* an acknowledgement.

On aside, for folks running very small sites on a tight budget, there are various free message board software alternatives available. For folks running larger sites ... if they can't afford a $160 USD vBulletin license, they really need to review their business model to determine why.

Lastly, in my view, JamesOH would likely do better to buy a new license directly from vBulletin (Jelsoft). Taking legal action, etc will take more money and effort than it's worth; chalk it up as a learning experience and move on...
