I'm not saying the auction was fake and neither do I believe so

However, I do swear that a Moniker employee said to me that half of the auction commissions go to Rick. If that means the TRAFFIC organization or Rick's own pockets, I do not know.

no that is not true either..but if its all fake, not sure how I would pay Rick or anyone commission. My poor auctioneer. He stood next to me for 4 hours and barked out names to an empty room and prettended to auction that list without any results.

I applaud this "reductio ad absurdum" approach :-D

It was pretty darn cool coming home from a great day of beach volleyball and finding out one of my domains sold for 3 times my asking price. I just barely missed hearing it being auctioned live via the radio show broadcast. If there is a mp3 link for the entire show, I'd appreciate someone sending it my way or posting it here. Many thanks to the Moniker Live Auction & the Traffic East Conference.

Roy

What was it...what was it...what was it? Congrats. I think I'll try the volleyball approach.

Roy, Monte said elsewhere it would be rebroadcast several times over the coming week (likely on WebmasterRadio?).

It's incredibly complex to organize an event of this scale. I listened to large parts of the auction and thought it was handled very professionally. My hat is off to Monte and team for a job well done. And my thanks as it will no doubt cast a favorable glow across the entire industry.

Cheers,
BidNo

yep the rest of the names that did not sell go to the silent auction. We expect another $250K to sell there....maybe more. Great names in the silent auction for sure with a lot of interest.

a lot of folks left for home today before and during the auction so they were happy to have 2 more days to buy names.

I will post the sales list from the silent auction early next week.

This is the most ridiculous thread I have ever seen.

I am by nature not a very trusting domainer (or person in general) but even I can't find anything fishy about this at all.

Congrats to Monte and everyone else involved, one of these days in the future I will make it to one of these conferences.

I read too late that even non-attendees could apply for the live as well silent auction. But it seemed like whoever wanted to attend this way have to pay some fee. How much was the fee ? Just to know for next Traffic to be ready...

Thats interesting, because Monte wrote: "Moniker is not charging an admission fee nor is the fee for the auction. The fee is for probably the best domain gathering and networking event on earth. The seminars and panel discussions along with the companies, pioneers, and industry folk that do deals and meet each other is worth tens of thousands of dollars to many on its own."
Wrote it here:
http://www.dnforum.com/showthread.php?t=181373&page=2

800 bucks for a "right" to be bidding in an online silent auction ? Not only thats a little gready, its also against interest of sellers, because there could be hundreds of small buyers spending total at least a mil.

Anyway there is the list of domains for silent auction so I can now contact the sellers directly via whois, because they showed intend to sell. I don't need to pay 800 bucks for basically nothing. Neither Snapnames nor Pool, Sedo or Clubdrop charge anything for attend an auction, because they are smart - they know buyers are an asset. Afternic charges $1 and Tdnam $5/year, thats reasonable. $800 is insane, imho, unless someone can explain me why it is good for an auction to charge an entrance fee.

i think they have an exclusivity agreement that the sellers sign stating they will not sell the domain to anyone else for a certain time period... i could be wrong tho
