I left out .info because I (and a few others) are making a nice living from their appreciation in value... and I wasn't even there at the landrush (divorce related court order prevented new investment at that time).

I don't know of anyone making a living from the appreciation in value of the ones I've listed, do you?

I think .mobi was a little different in that a guy whose name rhymes with "Shmick Smortz" somewhat successfully executed a short-lived 'pump and dump scheme', as used to be done in the stock market.

I wish you luck, and love that sense of humor!

.tel is going to be big. while we laugh at it, businesses big and small are always looking for something new. .mobi should have been what .tel is - oh, well. if you want to make money, market .tel and sell it like a .com b/c .tel compliments .com. a global virtual phone directory is a great idea. i tested emma.tel on iphones and blackberrys and it looks great and is easy to use. no more digging around websites for contact info. .tel is a great opportunity for all us! btw, i saw erotica.com sold for $800K+. how much is erotica.tel worth? seize the opportunity

also - .tel is perfect for the facebook, myspace, twitter world where everyone wants to be known.

Right. Pay for a domain you can't change the DNS for, can't park it and you can only put contact information on it.

Even if you make a myspace page, you can add all the junk you want, including photos and music.

.tel is nothing but a glorified yellow pages entry.

it is a glorified yellow (and white) pages. so what. that's what it does. it makes finding people and companies easier. anyway, it will work in today's smart phone world where people want everything at their fingertips. you're going to see my.tel apps in the itunes store as just one example of .tel working its way into a useful tool. mobi, name, info, biz, etc. were just .com copycats. it's the simple ideas that are most often successful.

I agree with burningspleen. However, the effort into marketing (ourselves that is) will make the ROI. I would like to elaborate more on how I intend to use my .tel, but that's for me to know only. Tel will get traction through a variety of channels, it's merely a compliment to the overall package. Remember, whatever you do, it's due to marketing efforts. Rather, don't expect to buy domains and have someone offer payment...we know the days of type-in traffic are changing. Users desire improved avenues to reach out. So, my hope is there will be a place for .tel. Worst case, I break even.

So you'd rather spend $200 for 3 years instead of $30 and be able to build a web site with a contact page and a form and whatever else....

I've heard of fashion victims but that's the first time I witness TLD victims in action.

.tel is going to be big. while we laugh at it, businesses big and small are always looking for something new.
The corporations should then be using .jobs which is much more useful than .tel.

The newbies get burned thinking any crap domain has the potential to sell, that just isn't true.

If you develop, yes. Development is the only way to go for a ccTLD that has no local market.
But a .tel cannot even be developed. It's just a vcard entry.

I vote for the removal of .tel from the root by early 2012

i thought this forum was populated by entrepreneurs. i posted a few times sharing my .tel opinions. it's an easy sell. .tel is fast, predictable (same layout), and easy to use. what else is there to know? what's more, if you couldn't get your preferred .com name, get it in .tel form and put your .com link in the .tel profile. naysayers can bash everything, but they stay miserable and broke. .tel is the best tld since .com.

Son, you need to be educated the hard way. Go buy all the .tel's you can afford. But don't tell others they should buy them *from* you because your sales pitch is crap. Domains that you can't change the DNS or content are of no use. I'd rather pay Yellow Pages online for an ad than buy a .tel

Yes we are entrepreneurs, but we are no tellings™ (.tel lemmings) :)
Now listen, you seem to be new to domaining but we have been in the business for years. I personally have been in the business for a good decade. The same story repeats each time a new extension is launched (newbies thinking there is a fortune to be made).
Do your homework, look at the past and notice nearly all the post-2000 TLDs have been utter failures and that's a fact.
Now .tel has restrictions that no other TLD has, yet you expect it to shine and outperform its siblings ?
It is beyond me

Go ahead, spend thousands of dollars and prove us wrong.
Good luck with your investments
.tel is the best tld since .com.
ROFL. Framed for posterity :)
