Its a valid card to play

Why spend tens of thousands of dollars in domains when you cant even afford food ?

I have been saying that for a long time

I don't think most domainers know what a depression is gonna feel like

Being condescending to the forum, its industry and the prospects for business again?

I forgot, it's Friday and you have free time in-between your community college classes.

Gotta work harder at calculus, John. Your talent for fantasy trading of precious metals can wait.

Then what are you doing here, talking down everyone involved in domains?

dude, you really need to get laid or something.. your chicken little attitude really is close to suicidal.

We have been in these situations before, and we will again.. the best thing to do is just bolt the doors and weather the storm.

Its not the end of the world. Life does go on, what is the point in worrying about things that are beyond your control..

Get yourself down to your local DIY shop, buy some wood, build a bridge and get over it already.

We're now about 5 months into the "crash", and I've been looking and domain sales results.

October: HUGE, one of biggest months ever
November: slow
December: slow
January: strong
February: very strong (and it's not even over yet!)

So, overall the slow economy has proven to be GOOD for domain sales. Those with crappy names they bought "for traffic" are probably in trouble.

In summary:

I am going over my portfolio agressively. If I have it developed and I'm going to keep up with it, I'm keeping it.

If it is parked and making >reg fee, I'm keeping it.

If not, I'll try to sell it and if not that, I'll drop it.

Agreed, although if it is a decent , used term that is paying for itself partially, I will keep it. Also, excellent 'new extension' names (if they really are excellent) are worth keeping My domain, Wine.US doesn't pay for itself but it still regularly attracts X,XXX offers.

Yup! Heck, even Warren Buffet is on a buying spree and got awesome deals in GE and Goldman Sachs.

Warren lost a ton of money this past year and even 'Buy Domains' and 'Go Daddy', much less us peons, aren't Warren Buffet.

As for the Great Depression which was nearly 80 years ago, Democrats no longer have the ideology they had back then, not even close.... Today their more Liberal and more Socialistic than they have ever been.

Hmm...many thought positively of the Nazi take over in Germany back then. Hitler DID fix the economy after all. I collect old radios and there were at least a couple of models sold in the USA that featured swastika stylized knobs and speaker grilles. Socialism was actually pretty popular as an idea too as was Communism. There was even a car line named 'Dictator'. I wouldn't recommend that Chrysler try mounting a come back today with that moniker but it worked fine for Studebaker in the late 30s! We are nowhere close today. The 'socialism' card is way, way overplayed today by 'Ol' Rushbo' Republicans. Find another station.

Those world banks had a nice ride on the crest of the wave. But what they did not see was the tsunami building behind it and eventually overtook that crest and smashed it!

The realtors found 'eAabracadabra1.net' repackaged it so that they banks swooned over it and the home buyers decided that they had to have it even though they didn't have the money. The 'Masters of the Universe' on Wall Street then fought off regulation with payments to congress (both Republicans and Democrats like spending and receiving money) and proceeded to trade it amongst themselves sure that 'eAbracadabra1.net' was 'Homes.com' then someone discovered that it was really 'eAbracadabra1.net'.

We may be poor but we'll live. I suspect that canned beens, water, and bread will remain available.

I get depression from your doomsday obsession.

Sorta liked that one. Had to include it!
