I haven't bought a domain name for over 24 hours and I'd started to get the shakes, so I bought NewHaw.com

New Haw is a commuter suburb of London and is fairly prosperous. I can advertise free in the local paper, so I thought I'd buy this and sell it as a smart email address. eg [email protected]. newhaw.co.uk is owned by a company that has lots of town names and offers them as email addresses.

How much shall I ask for in the initial advertisement?

Just outside Weybridge, not far from the old Brooklands racing track and the old Vickers aircraft factory. Junction of the M3 and M25 and round the corner from Wisley gardens.

I think some email company has got all the .co.uk towns.

I onlt reg'd it because I saw it had just dropped and I know I can make a profit even if it's just selling it to some local estate agent.

yep, if its an area name, then it will go down well in that area. Depending on the buyer, you could be looking at anything from £25-£500.....but ask the estate agents first, local papers etc.

I was going to ask for about £100 ($150), but it sounds as if I should start at £500 ($750). That's too much for a free add in the paper, but I might put a free ad in the local supermarket (Brooklands Tesco).

the free ad should be the last thing to do.........approach local firms who are associated with the area, like an estate agent.

Estate agent sounds the best idea, I must admit. I might have a drive round there soon as I've got to go to Cobham which is only a few miles away.
