There was to much farting around with nonsense... Look back over the stats... MOST of the sales were done in the first half... the majority of that done before the first BREAK.

Then... fizzle... The momenteum was gone and they strggled to even get the GREAT names sold in the latter half. Everything except the .mobis that is

Just like WEST, EAST left a few stragglers behind. However, this time there is a "Silent Auction" to collect them and give them another shot at a sale. Originally, the silent auction was extended through Monday afternoon (from Saturday afternoon) due to the fact that there were SO MANY domains left over and in the silent auction list.

So "technically" it wasn't that bad

I think the fact that Rick Schwartz put up 200k for a .mobi gives us all a PAUSE to think about where the future of .mobi is....

Flower orders are done most often over the phone and net these days so the name fits the ext.

US$ 4,7 million today, not too bad for almost exactly 4 hours' work..

Just to Note* The time of the auction (aprox 4 hours) is only a small part (the peak) of all the work put into this, yet the gross income/exposure of the industry was worth the time spent and cash made.

Thank you all of you for this thread, and those who made this event possible. It was great to follow and will be a thread to visit next year, before the next TRAFFIC... Woot!

Yes...I learned that two letter .net names were not worth $10K...surprise to me since they have been averaging close to $20K in the market.

I really tried to make sure that the sales flowed and that there was not too much down time...and there was not. the sales were very well dispursed throughout the event to the very end.

It will get better and better with more corporate buyers in the room. We did not have a chance to really market to the corp world to get names like bourbon, whiskey, dsl.com, auction.com, hmo.com to sell. We will have much more time in before March.

Someone was there for us Monte and were tuned in. I have to agree with some that it would be a good idea to expand sales by NOT charging a fee to bid, or at least make it much much cheaper. ($100 tops) Six months on exclusivity may be fine for those super high names that aren't going any place soon unless they get their price, but some sellers use a sales turn over model and sell hundreds of names each month. These are still with names selling at 4 and 5 figures mixed in. They can't have large portions of their names tied up for that long.

Hi Folks,

The choice is to just charge our regular attendee fees of $1495-$1995 for a full conference pass or try to open it up to more folks that had been invited to TRAFFIC but just wanted to participate in the auction. This was only an experiment that started last week. The benefit is it brought in the corporate buyer who would just be interested in attending the auction like the 1-800-flowers attorney or and it allowed qualified bidders that have been invited to TRAFFIC participate. This is something that Monty and I kicked around looking for some middle ground and flexibility. I have always leaned to just allowing those with full conference passes to bid. There is a better than even chance that we will go back to that policy. Bidding on these premium domains is one of the perks you get from attending TRAFFIC. When folks first get to TRAFFIC they question a lot of things we do. When they leave they understand the formula we use and the great value everyone gets. The formula is avery simple one. "If you bring great peoplr together....great things will happen" And it does. And they come back again and again.

At the Las Vegas show in March, the very first panel we will be doing are the success stories of TRAFFIC. On that panel we will have folks discussing the deals they have done at TRAFFIC that few if any of us know about. Multi million dollar deals that will be made public. Plus not all the deals are big. There are a multitude of smaller deals. The key is there are a lot of deals being made and some of them are life changing.

The funny thing with any auction is there is no possible way to keep all sides and interests completely happy. You just do the best you can to balance everyone's interest together. Monte and his team and Howard and I do the best we can. The results speak for themselves.
