Great way for a buyer to find out the reserve price then. Perhaps sellers can also retract the reserve price? Crazy system. Next sellers will be able to increase the sold price.

Doesn't this sort of, at least paritially, defeat the purpose of the auction system?

If a domain I want goes to auction, I can just overshoot a bid, say at 20k, when the domain is currently at 2k, and then I will find out if I hit the reserve or not, and then retract my bid right after. Then I can start making targeted bids at the reserve or right after.

Not criminal or anything, but sort of.. makes you go "er? "

Hi,
Yes, it's a pain, It's also ill-thought out by sedo tbh.
I have flagged it up to them as a potential fault & nightmare to sellers.
I have to say though, as always when i deal with sedo staff direct, they are fantastic. Particular mentions to Brad & Georgina who are legends imo.
Can't knock sedo all the time! LOL
However Sedo have caused a few problems of late for me & others.

Here's a list of things for sedo to sort:
1/ ppc rates
2/ bid retractions
3/ more stringent buyer verification
4/ banning non-paying buyers
5/ website glitches when large numbers of visitors
etc

cheers,
Pred

Acro,
i think they must be cowering in the mail room after reading this thread! LOL
Well it is customary to send your favourite businesses a gift at Christmas, isn't it?
I mean a bottle of wine, maybe a hamper if you're having a good year?
How about i send a Yuletide 'Log' through? Can't guarantee it'll be warm as it's coming from the UK, but it's the thought that counts...right? LOL
:cheeky:
Cheers, Pred

I received a clock/light from Sedo last year, which was a nice gesture; if only it worked. It never survived US Mail treatment.

Hi
This is Sedo FAQ about retracting bids (only first part):
-----------
Can I retract or cancel my bid?
As a general rule, retracting bids is not allowed. When you are the winning bidder, you are obligated to pay the high-bid price for the domain name.

There are only two exceptions under which you can retract a bid:
1. You have made a typographical error and entered the wrong bid amount by mistake. If this occurs, you are able to retract the incorrect bid amount but are obligated to submit another sufficiently high bid amount at the same time. Not placing another bid means you will lose your status as a Certified Buyer resulting in the inability to participate in future bidding activity.
2. The description of the domain offer has been changed considerably by the seller.
------------

Comments ?

Hi dude,
yeah seen that. That obviously applies to standard sales i think.
Tbh i don't think sedo have written any rules yet for the auction system. LOL
It's a learning curve for them apparently. Unfortunately for us all.
I have mailed them about the retracting issue for sellers & mentioned on 2 threads. No answer as of yet.
Sedo have still not publicly commented on them falsely selling attorney.mobi by auction! LOL
So God knows!

This is not for standard sales, this is one item in Auction FAQ.
Look your auction (thistle), More options > Auction FAQ ...

hey pred ... but it's still the same bidder leading your auction correct? just didn't want to be above the reserve price.

and there are many names listed there fraudulently ... we've seen it hundreds of times, sedo is not at fault if someone listed attorney.mobi and it went to auction, I'm sure they wouldn't have released funds had it gotten that far.

Is there an online police force governing Internet commerce activities?
