I was so hoppin' mad when I went to bed last night, I couldn't sleep. here it is 2:23 a.m in the morning, checking to see if anything has been done. It appears on my end that it's been disabled. I get, Could not connect to host!

Some explanations for this need to be forthcoming at the very least!!!!!!

I think Neulevel is doing some maintenance work today. The bizpromote site is also down besides whobiz.biz.

"This service is temporarily down for maintenance. Please check back after 8PM EST on May 18th.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Interesting. If you query a .BIZ root DNS server (such as A.GTLD.biz) for the name servers of any non-existent .biz domain name, it returns "DOES-NOT-EXIST.default-redirect.biz".

If you query DOES-NOT-EXIST.default-redirect.biz for the IP address of a hostname of any non-existent .biz domain name, it returns alias ip90.chainlink.net, 209.249.107.90. If you enter that IP into your browser, it redirects to http://157.22.32.235/dir.html, which is a GalaxySearch.com search page.

Neulevel definitely has the .biz root set up to redirect non-existent .biz domains. The disturbing part is that they would redirect to a PPC search site and not a page that says the domain name is available for registration (maybe with links to accredited registrars). They seem to be more interested in PPC revenue than .biz registrations.

I haven't thought through all the implications, but it smells bad.

Thanks for the heads up, catcher! It sure smells bad, especially when the namespace redirects to porno sites and http://targetedvisitors.sex.com is involved. I've sent over this forum thread for Neulevel to read. It is very easy to mistype valid .biz names without even knowing, and being shuttled to a graphic breast augmentation site can be embarrasing to say the least for the intended site owner.

This whole thing sucks!! I don't like using infantile language like that but this whole .biz thing has me pissed off to no end.

I typed in some misspellings I was sent to a page that gave me 10 friggen pop-ups. Neulevel had better quickly realize that they could have some legal problems on their hands... Does "Innocent Sounding" names ring a bell. What if children accidently type in a wrong address. It's repulsive enough for an adult, yet to have a child involved is unthinkable. That Kids.us is looking better, and better everyday.

I am truly saddened by these events. My guess is other .biz owners will be too. I am all for making a buck, but don't do it the "cheasy" way of friggen re-directs you imbeciles!!!

As a staunch supporter of .biz I will watch this closely. And report back here. If I even so much get a complaint from a visitor to my site that mistakenly gets redirected to another site "they don't like", I will sue. That is not a threat, but a promise!!!

Btw: I am going to be posting my .02 cents on the ICANN forum. I would like a response from Neulevel if you are in fact redirectly unused namespace. I'm sure ICANN/DOC would love to hear about it if this is true...

If Neulevel is redirecting traffic, I will petition Senator Tom Daschle, my state senator to inquire about this to the DOC... Namespace shouldn't be used as a PPC friggen testbed!!!

Like I said, I would like a response from Neulevel. There is no confirmation yet if in fact they are doing this. I would think by now it's pretty obvious, but who knows. Hiding isn't going to help. .Biz owners should be very concerned at this development to say the least.

NEULEVEL: RESPOND!!!!

Me too. What the hell is Neustar up to? Does anyone here have the complaint email for ICANN?

There is no "if". The biz and us registries are run by Neustar, and the biz and us DNS zones have wildcard zones that match unregistered domain names. Nobody except Neustar could do it.

This is the company that will be managing the kid-safe kids.us domain. What happens if a kid mis-spells kids.us?

Try typing http://www.kidzz.us.

Are you saying Neustar was behind this??

I suppose the root biz and us servers could have been compromised, or an enterprising soon-to-be-ex-employee may have tinkered with things. But whether it's a bad business decision or bad security, it's Neustar/Neulevel's problem.

(I accidentally entered www.neulevel.us a minute ago and it leads to porn popup hell also. The destination seems to change at random. Maybe it's trying to optimize the ad to the url typed in. Seems to go to targetedvisitor.sex.com the first time, then targetedvisitor.galaxysearch.com the second time. Who knows.)

so, they're pretty much a typo-squatter, except that they don't have to register misspelling names to catch traffic.

That pretty much sums it, .biz. .bizness without ethics. I hope this is a hack, cos if it ain't, heads are going to roll when serious .biz registrants realise what is happening. A namespace that promotes internet porn ain't something the DoC and FTC enjoy to handle.
