That pretty much sums it, .biz. .bizness without ethics. I hope this is a hack, cos if it ain't, heads are going to roll when serious .biz registrants realise what is happening. A namespace that promotes internet porn ain't something the DoC and FTA enjoy to handle.

Something is wrong. The .biz whois hasn't updated in a couple of days. I purchased a .biz name for someone the other day. It's updated at registar where I purchased the name but not changed on Whois.biz.

It's true, Neulevel.us, depending on how many times you refresh eventually leads to porn. I would seriously doubt they would let this name be "redirected" to porn. It's a registrar reserved name. All the registrar reserved names to include, A.biz, etc redirect. If for some reason I am proven wrong, God help Neulevel/Neustar. The DOC would strip them of dot US faster than they could say: Ooops we f'd up!

It looks like Neulevel tried to do something about this the other night. The redirection was temp halted.

It does raise some issues though---Security. If in fact this is the work of a hacker or over zealous employee this could be just one more reason to "lock" your names. I have locked all my names with my Registrar so the records can't be changed or the name be moved.

If the central whois records - a function of the "thick registry" unlike the "thin" dotcom registry - is compromised, god help us.

Hope eNom is taking the necessary backup precautions.

Better email eNom on this.

What is worrying is - there is nobody manning the support desks at Neulevel - no replies to emails, nothing. Like the whole company disappeared.

Told them not to charge .biz at $5 bucks a piece just to make the numbers

You can run, but you can't on on the world's most popular domain name forum. Neulevel will have no choice but to respond.

BTW mole I am nominating you for "Secretary of Domain Name Security".... Are you up for it?

note: Notice I didn't include smiley faces... I'm dead serious. We should create this position for Mole. Mole has been the champion against spam and added domain name security.

Looks like everything now is redirected to the Galaxy Search page.

http://157.22.32.235/

Either this is the only "fix" Neulevel has, or they are in fact diverting .biz typos.

edit: That GalaxySearch.com page is pretty lame. I really don't think Neulevel is behind this now. Use the "search for:" box. Enter any term. Most terms used won't return any results. Try "home". Definitely a lame PPC page.

Definitely seems like a huge mistake, whether intentional or not.

I once had a PPC banner service on one of my websites that started slipping PORN into its rotations. They had no idea that one of their advertisers had slipped porn ads into their system (esp. since their policies explicitly forbade such content). I kept harrassing the president, and went so far as to send him screenshots of the offending material. It showed above my forum, and I had to make an open apology to the members later. One noted that he'd seen the banner and was more than a bit bewildered by it.

I wonder if some similar "screw up" may have been involved here? For a "registry" to make such a move, seems very very bad, if it went unmonitored, or worse, exactly as intended.

It isn't just the porn. The whole idea of making dead name space live changes the business of the registry. Look at it this way, if a high traffic name is unregistered, the registry has a conflict of interest, since their mission is to distribute domain names, but they would lose money if they did so. Not only that, who would have access to the traffic stats? An insider might have an unfair advantage. I find the whole issue unsettling.
