Many adults assume that Whitehouse.com is the Whitehouse. Not just kids. There is a huge industry in White House ornaments, monogramed shirts, towels, mugs, tours etc.

first, i don't believe he earns that much. because if he earns that much, he wouldn't want to sell it.

he might earns a lot in 1998 and 1999 when people didn't know the trick and not many porn sites available. but not today...

There is a warning page for a reason.

I see no reason why this asset should be held by an american over anone else.

Personally, i would like to see someone with interest in the whitehouse (any nationality) develop the domain into a informational site.

whitehouse.info would be a sensible address for an informational site about the White House, but that's just an alternative address for house.com, a real estate site.[/URL]

The owner of Whitehouse.com own's the .info and many other versions of this same domain name (over 100). He also owns House.com and thousands of other "top shelf" domains. Traffic is well over 1 Million a month. Revenues are over $1 Million a year, as well and the price is a multiple of the same. If anyone has an extra $3-$6 Million laying around - please contact us and we will see if we can help on this one. We have some of the details - Thanks - Steve

Some might call you a terrorist too.

What does that prove? Some people are idiots?

whatever.

all I can say is that if I had owned whitehouse.com, it would not have been a porn site. I never attacked anybody's legal right to do as they pleased, but appealed to this community to find it's moral center on what I thought would have been an easy common ground. apparently I was wrong. too bad.

With the money it's made him, he can afford the very best matresses, pillows, and sleeping pills.

No, the government doesn't have the "right" to the .com domain and .gov is the correct place. However, kids and parents should have the right to not have such a blatant porn trap out there taking advantage of a site frequently visited accidentally by schools and kids. I'm sure very few would have a problem if the domain was owned by a normal company of the name, an independent whitehouse news site, a city or village named whitehouse (there are several), or some legitimate use.

Personally, I think the government should bite the bullet and get this name and redirect it to the .gov just to have control.

It's amazing that he thinks its ok for other kids to view his website, but not his own kids. The guy should be locked up in prison.

Excuse me: As I mentioned before - Whitehouse is legitimately used for PORN.

http://www.gold-star-publications.com/whiteint.htm

Ask any trademark lawyer - Whitehouse can be used for selling dildo's or horse manure.

Although Mr Bush may challenge the horse sh*t - as he is currently selling it to the American people :cheesy:

Yes, so should the people who wrote the U.S. Constitution and anyone else who believes in free speech.

The only people who should be allowed to publish websites are those that agree with your views. Anyone else should be sent straight to jail.

Have you considered moving to Cuba? I think they already have a policy like the one you suggest. %+|

It doesn't have to be legally wrong to be morally wrong. Although US laws were passed recently that would make it legally wrong. There are US laws against "bait and switch" selling techniques. This is very close to the same thing.

It's precisely sites like that that give domain traders in general a bad rap. I can't imagine any reputable trader who condones this type of domain usage.

Garry, its not so much a legal issue , its a moral one. Here is a guy that uses a non-porn domain that millions of kids type into search engines at schools and at home while doing homework, and they get blasted with this crap. Its not right.

I stand by my opinion. The guy should be in prison.

The guy knew what he was doing putting porn on that name. He didn't care about the kids or the US public in any measure. He only cared about a buck. In that action he has hurt all of us domainers by giving us a bad rap. That costs us money out of our own pockets if you'd just think that through for once. The guy is a slime ball and anyone who can't see the basis for this and mimics his actions here are also slime balls. Is it a wonder that the likes of them often operate behind a curtain and hide. I'd love to meet this clown.

I certainly understand the moral objections - I have two daughters.

There are firms out there, like "Net Nanny", that responsible parents can use if they so wish.

I prefered to warn and keep an eye on my girls - but each parent to their own way.

The point I make is that "Whitehouse" in the Magazine refers to a person not a house.

It seems silly to me, placing trust in the title of any website.

Kids are always going to come across porn sites by accident.

Perhaps the guy should be in prison - depending on what was shown on opening screen and how he protected site from minors.

Many businesses share the same words - it is obvious there will be conflict of domain names.

You will note that the authorities have never put up a master directory to find each business - a simple task.

Guess why.

The whole internet is getting a bad rap because people hate to be surprised by crazy websites. More people would go to the internet if the reputation wasn't that of a carnival side show, peep show medium.
