Yahoo! plans search marketing in Indian regional languages

Bangalore, Sept. 27 (PTI): Yahoo! has plans to launch 'search marketing solutions' in Indian regional languages, a company executive said today.

"There are plans", Yahoo! Search Marketing General Manager Sandeep Deshpande said adding that there are no definite dates for launch at this stage.

"We are looking at a lot of Indian languages for search."

Yahoo! India has launched 'search marketing solutions' (in English) for Indian marketers.

"In the last one week, over 50 large advertising and marketing companies have tied up (for the offering)," he said.

Company executives said search marketing connects businesses to targeted customers seeking products and services, through advertising model called sponsored search.

"The Indian market is of strategic importance to Yahoo!," said Yahoo! Search Marketing Regional Managing Director Craig Wax.

This is a good move but I think they would generate more revenue if they extended the YPN to other countries outside of the USA first!!

Yes, in terms of securing international market share, outside Japan, they have been left for dead by Google, who along with Microsoft are also investing heavily in local language search in India and elsewhere.

A lot more needs to be done, but it is an insight into how fast the world is changing.
