You just reminded me of that fact as well: the technology progresses quite fast these days. In 5 years all mobile devices will be powerful, miniature PC's with flexible, full-color hi-def screens.

This may be true, but its not the technology working on .mobi, it is an access to mobile technology. Its presentation. You may see it as a hype, ok, good. Others see it as a good idea. While you may look down on .mobi, it is much better than getting a long and windy .com. Everyday there are many mobile website companies developing. They need the users to access the mobile internet websites that they own. Before .mobi was launched, the mobile website companies used (and still use .am, .in, .info, etc). Also they use QRcodes and "mailmag" (mail magazines) to get their users to them.
While it seems that the only mobile websites are on official carriers where you are, there is a huge explosion of mobile websites here in Asia.

I do NOT agree with .mobi's standardization of what kind of language should be used with .mobi. This limits the techmology that can be used with mobile devices. Forwarding .mobi to a .com would be great. DoCoMo's phones use cHTML, and Softbank and AU use cHTML and xHTML. So we have to use RTHML (Ruby) And honesly, the set standard we have to go by with .mobi is damn stupid. Why does Asia (more mobile users than the Western Hemisphere) have to go by a stupid standard!? So forwarding works well.

I think that Arcoplex (for whom i cannot speak for) is just making fun of anyone who regged .mobi. I admit, i love his sense of humor. And as you can see, he has a lot of dnf$. Sometimes the topic goes off of .mobi and just goes to him. So lets get back to .mobi.

So if you have a premium .mobi name, you can redirect to .com or .info or whatever. "premium.whatever" is good enough. And if you are trying to get traffic from mobile users NOT PC USERS, having a .mobi would benefit you more.

Once i get my darn MobileDesigner account back, ill write more. If you wanna see magazines specifically for mobile websites, please wait until i get my account back and wait until Monday Tokyo time and i will take some pics and show all of you.

Its seriously hilarious the way people like acro and all these mobi haters think. top keyword names in all extensions do not sell for 5 and 6 figures when the extension is new. List all the .info, .us, .name, .ws, etc that sold for 6 figures within the first 6 months. I dont even think there has been any names in any of those extensions that has sold for 6 figures EVER and those extensions are old. These 2 mobi names are worth a lot more than the names you have in your signature and you still make fun of it. Mobi haters are just pissed that they were too stupid to invest in mobi from the beginning so now they just want the whole thing to fail so they can feel better about their mistakes. You are saying that only the top keywords are worth owning in any extension and that those names get taken right away. So are you saying it is too late for anyone to invest in any domain name in any extension then since everything good was taken so long ago?

I don't make fun of anyone who registered .mobi domains; only these that are a) oblivious to how any domain gold rush works b) unable to understand mobile telephony has no need of a separate TLD to function 100%

no, i think .mobi speaks to a new / emerging application, the mobile web, and NO it isn't needed as an extension. some simply say it's just branding, and i kind of agree, but branding or not, if it continues to be used as the mobile version of popular sites it will create it's niche and value.
