last year it was $750 to access absentee bidding and the silent auction. This time it is $499 and the fee is applied towards purchase. And there are many more potential bidders than ever before as a result of this.

Remember that TRAFFIC is more or less a private invite only event...so having access to the auctions does have a fee if you are not attending. It also helps to qualify the potential bidders.

Just one question, do I have to cancel the 60 day binding agreement with Moniker as the sales agent for my submitted domains after the auction's over?

Admitted, I agreed to this period like all others here but it's ridiculous in my opinion. The auction does not last 60 days but a week maybe. There is no reason for Moniker to ask for a 60-day exclusivity right. When the auction is over and your domains have not been sold you should be able to sell them elsewhere.

Yes, you must cancel before the 60 days or it will renew, make sure you get a response and save it. The 60 days is to cover the silent auction period as well, not just live.

Thanks for clarifying. I forgot that for the last Traffic auction last year. After the current auction is over will have to cancel the agreement then.

In defense of Moniker, 60 days seems reasonable - at least in respect of the Live auction - since being included gives you a level of exposure to the top buyers in the market that no other existing service can get even close to.

Memories don't get erased after the auction is over, and neither do the multiple mirror sites around the internet - many people who happen to do a search in Google for an included domain - say 59 days from now - will find all the other domains on the list, cached on multiple sites.

I agree that the lockup is reasonable, though 30 days is probably better in this ever-changing marketplace.

According to my rep, this is false. The agreement for the auction is a one shot deal. When it expires, it's done.

Quote from Monikers EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO SELL AGREEMENT

Page 1 - Paragraph 1

TERM OF THE AGREEMENT: Seller grants Buyer/Seller Agent the exclusive right and authority to sell the Names for a period (60) calendar days from the date of this Agreement. or such later day as Buyer/Seller Agent's exclusive right and authority may be extended by the Parties in writing (the "Exclusive Sale Period"). The Exclusivity Period will automatically renew if not cancelled by either party within each active period whether initial or extended period.

If you want to take your reps word for it, your inviting trouble.

Ladies and Guys please verify the following:

1. TERM OF THE AGREEMENT: Seller grants Buyer/Seller Agent the exclusive right and authority to sell the Names for a period of ninety (90) calendar days from the date of this Agreement, or such later day as Buyer/Seller Agent’s exclusive right and authority may be extended by the Parties in writing (the “Exclusive Sale Period”). This Exclusivity Period will automatically renew if not cancelled by either party within each active period whether initial or extended period.

(Internext had 60 days)

Maybe I removed that section - I don't remember. I know I changed it from 60 to 45 days, so mine will expire a few days after the auction.

Muris,

The seller agreement from Moniker clearly shows the year 2007 after where you enter the day and month. Internext showed 2006.

The 2007 agreement clearly indicates 60 days. If yours is showing 90, they must of modified the agreement at a later date.

Looks like, we have custom tailored agreements. I do not like this.
(back than they didn't know I'm DNF member - maybe that's the answer)

Kinda make you wonder what kind of volume lowering it further to $50 would bring, huh?

Not that I'd pay $50 anyways. When Sam's Club's first opened, I thought it was a really bad precedent to set, charging a customer an annual fee for the "privilege" of shopping in his store. Sadly, people still foolishly pay such things and may never realize the deal sucks.

It often takes a lot to recoup those fees. Some people even go in with the thought, "I have to buy something just so I can 'save' the fees I already spent." These are the same folks who probably don't know when to fold when playing cards.

There are other ways of qualifying a bidder.

Anyone who wants to get in a last minute bid in the current LIVE auction, let me know. There are a lot of names with no reserve in there.

Also, remember that the online, SILENT part of the auction started yesterday and runs until Wed of next week (3/14), so there is still plenty of time to register for that and get busy.

Let me know in any case....
