I am very shocked...and sad for his family and friends. I always enjoyed watching his shows...and figured it would be a croc that would eventually do him in. Damn...that's horrible... :-(

what's weird is that stingrays are usually fairly tame animals. on fishing trips i've stood knee deep in the estuary filleting fish with dozens of stingrays nudging my legs and eating the scraps.

Seems like a terrible tragedy, apparently the sting barb pierced his heart.

I too have enjoyed watching this man on tv , he will be sorely missed.

Really genuine, captivating bloke. I can't imagine ever seeing another TV presenter so genuinely enthusiastic about wildlife.

apparently the sting barb pierced his heart.

The venom in the sting got him.

Stingrays have flat bodies with long, slender tails that have serrated spines. Their serrated spines can cause lacerations (cuts) and puncture wounds. The spines also contain venom. Stingrays are widely distributed in tropical to temperate waters. They are not aggressive, so an injury from a stingray usually occurs when a swimmer or diver accidentally steps on one. Stingray stings are one of the most common dive- and beach-related injuries.

Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, muscle cramps, tremors, paralysis, fainting, seizures, elevated heart rate, and decreased blood pressure may develop. Death may even occur.

This is so sad...Hopefully, the footage does not leak. I wonder how the Animal Planet feels because they were making multi millions off of him.

RIP Steve, you done a great job in life! Thank you!!

Find this on IMDB: "He tells his camera crew to always be filming. If he needs help, he will ask for it. Even if he is eaten by a shark or croc, the main thing he wants is that it be filmed. If he died, he would be sad if no one got it on tape."

Now wait a minute, we get about 20 stingray stings PER DAY here in San Diego, never heard of one fatal and rarely does anyone need to go to the hospital. He must have been trying to ride a big one or something to get it anywhere near his chest. I snorkel over large ones occasionally, they are not aggressive.
