Don't attack the messenger. I'm just calling it as I see it.

FACT : many in this industry don't make hardly any money.

FACT : Most register domain names w/ the expectation / hope that the $6.99 registration will make them millionaires

FACT : Very few domainers will actually succeed

Now, may I ask, why do these comments piss you guys off. do you disagree with the premises ? or does it merely offend your sensibility ?

Other than a few .mobi + .asia investors, I don't think many people starting in the 2006-2008 timeframe thought they'd become millionaires off handregs...

I know lots of domainers who make 1-2k USD per month and are from China, India, etc where you can live quite comfortably off of that. It's hard to be successful by "USA standards" if you get into domaining today but that's not true for new domainers from other countries where "success" might be 2 digits lower than American/European expectations.

How many people become millionaires doing anything? I think that's a very lofty amount to label success. If someone can hold down a full time job and make a few hundred or thousand per month in their spare time on top of that, is that not successful?

Don't attack the messenger. I'm just calling it as I see it.

But, but .. you are the messenger! The doom and gloom bringer .. my advice for what it's worth .. get out of the business.

Actually, you're right in a way. But what is pissing people off is that you assume too much about people you don't know and that your horse is a little high.

Also, I can tell you're frustrated about something. We've all been through it. Learn and move on.

u got to first decide if this is ur main work...........if it is so treat it like a real estate, u dont expect to sell commercial property every day...........if its just a part time investment.......just buy a revenue domain from a good broker(since u r new) and enjoy the xx OR xxx REVENUE monthly.........hang out here just for updates and focus on your main job......once u get bit experienced........u can do things on ur own.......n if u r really passionate abt domains.......u might switch over to it full time.......once u have some stable income from domains

no no no and no

I do VERY well off domains

It is clearly possible to make decent money from domains - I know from first hand experience

However, some of the domains I see people getting excited about on this board are just laughable. I wouldnt even take some of these domains if given to me for free. And that goes for the majority of domains discussed on this forum.

That said, my point was merely, that the MAJORITY of domainers will not succeed off their hand regs. Hence they are losers. At least in my book.

I know. I know. The truth is brutal. It hurts. :(

If you don't like it, leave... sheesh. telling people that most people in an industry are losers is no way to make friends...

Look at the topic of the thread you post.
Whom are you trying to fool with all the "$6 newbies dreaming of millions are crap" attitude, while clearly you are trying to diss domainers? Theres obviously some frustration somewhere brewing which made you start this thread?

No business has instant millionaires. Heck i believe there are more successful entrepreneurs in domaining than most businesses. The only thing is some arent earning as much as others. Doesent give anybody a right to call them losers.

I have to agree with you here, I made a post about this on another thread saying the forum would greatly improve if they're was a way to weed out the crappy domains, Some of the portfolios I've seen here are quite shocking, where they have hundreds or thousands of domains and 99% of them are pure crap, But most of us don't say anything because we don't want to hurt their feelings or piss them off.

Where I disagree with you is; It's wrong to label them "Losers" Many of the sales you see are domainers unloading all their unwanted crap, Crap they regged when they were newbies and didn't know any better or perhaps some were under the influence. :dizzy:

"Loser" is an inflamatory word best never used. You Paid for a platinum membership to say this ? I wonder how many people put you on ignore, costing you sales ? Just an observation. Catching more flies with honey comes to mind........

I make a figure many people over the world would be happy with as a salary, domaining in my lunch breaks and stolen 5 mins at work. Piece of piss this game. Many people work a hell of a lot harder for a lot less money and reward. Count yourself lucky man.

Success in life is determined by many things including one's own behavior and how they treat others and react to others. While you say domainer's are losers they can be successful if they show courtesy to their follow human.

Success is not equivalent to wealth alone.

I have only been doing this for 4 months and have sold 3 domains over $2,000 and 2 domains over $500, mean while I am building my domains up earning money from sponsors. The domains I sold I purchased from ebay between $1.28 and $9 each. Can you imagine the poor soul who sold me the domain for under value and I turn around months to weeks later and flip them for XXX and XXXX figure's......!OUCH!!

I'm jealous. I've been "in it" for over a year now and I haven't sold a single one (rule #1: don't listen to my wife when purchasing domains). My parking revenue is crap, at best. The past 6-8 months I've switched from parking & regging to developing with some exceptions (nnnnn.com, and a few "new" technologies). In the past 3 months, though, I've made more with adsense revenue on developed sites than I did all of last year with parking.

It's slow for me but slowly building to a steady income and I just closed a deal that will allow me to sell someone's books on one of my sites (very popular in the niche). Hopefully I'll sell some books every month.

Other than a few .mobi + .asia investors, I don't think many people starting in the 2006-2008 timeframe thought they'd become millionaires off handregs...

Gospel, plain and simple. Now, I only hand reg if I know I am going to develop it or it is a new technology (MT9 and a few geeky magazines that sometimes push out great keywords). 99% of the time I'll only register .com now, too.

How many people become millionaires doing anything? I think that's a very lofty amount to label success. If someone can hold down a full time job and make a few hundred or thousand per month in their spare time on top of that, is that not successful?

Hard work and lots of it. Now, I have no social life (well, I didn't have one before!). I work my 40+ hours a week, spend about 5-8 a week commuting and the rest of the time is either researching, developing, or sleeping. My wife just mandated a "date night" t get me away from the PC and to spend time with her at least one evening a week.

Also educating oneself is extremely important. I've been on this forum since December 2007 and I've learned more here than I did in Jan-Dec last year on other "paid" forums (in fact, some I look at as a huge waste of money, especially for the paid part, but there are a few good members over there). Once you think you have a plan, do more research and learn about domaining, development, and trends.

Can I come ??? please post pics :)

Can my wife and I come, too? We both love the ocean (but the south Florida seas are NOTHING compared to northern New England's seas, those are much more fun and not just for anyone).

Isn't this that same guy that started crying in the appraisal section, when people were making fun of him for owning youngchildren.com? He's tired of getting picked on, and I think this thread is sort of like Custard's Last Digital Stand...

I do very well, thank you very much

My observation, still sticks - most involved here are LOSERS , who won't succeed

Thanks for the $5 dnf

I'm curious, how many domains are in your portfolio?

Most people who by domains fail to make money with domains for the same reason most people who open restaurants or trade commodities fail.
They fear risk and fail to plan. Buying cheap domains is easy.. before you know it, you've blown through 1k.
