Treat your customers nicely and they won't leave.

This is crazy.

So what?! He PMed some people and asked them if they wanted to go to another forum. Big deal. Man, I am really regretting buying this membership.

What rule did he violate?? Please state the number.

BTW, I guess I am breaking rule 12. Is my ban coming next??

NOTE: This post isn't meant to pile on Dr. Who. I just would like to put things into perspective... (I.e Who is Dr Who?)

Dr.Who had over 4000 posts. 99% of those were the comments:

$0.00 or Reg fee.

I think it became a "joke" and thus elevated him to some "tough" appraisal expert status.. Reality is he made a joke out of the appraisal system on the backs of some very good domainers.

As far as his recruitment efforts. How does this help our community?

This is EXACTLY something that we do NOT want to see here: rendering so-called "appraisals" of "$0" or "Reg fee" which are so authoritative in tone but actually come WITHOUT any elaboration at all. They make our Appraisal forum a laughing stock.

No it doesn't.

I for one valued his appraisals. If he said 0.00 it meant 0. Why elaborate on that? I agreed with his zero appraisals. The names that got them deserved it.

So is it now "he got banned for 0.00 appraisals?" The appraisal section is going to be a joke when people are afraid to give honest appraisals because they are scared that they might offend someone with 0.00 and get banned.

I have personally called for making the appraisal thread more professional and with more thought put into the appraisals...
but to Ban him ? thats retarded..

None of you had enough sense to tell him to cut it out ? you had to ban him ?

No that wasnt it ..it was because he was inviting people to another forum ..

Like Matt W said.. big deal..

You guys are turning this into a police state.. when you see the mass exodus by the members that know better.. it will be too late..

He didn't always appraise names at $0.00. Many which he did, are worth just that, nothing to most people, just another made up name, a dime a dozen.

"Our Community" its not ours anymore.

O.k... before we get too emotional... Just how isn't this our community?

Maybe it's just me, but I come here to do business and learn on this forum everyday. The "side bar" discussions are "fun", but my emphasis has always been about business. If you find yourself looking for "something" to do to kill 12 hours a day, you probably don't understand what I'm talking about.

Nonetheless, I think it's good for members to discuss what's on their minds. If we are going to discuss things. Let's do it rationally and cut out the emotions. I'm tired of the "poor" me. The infidels, will they ban me next... etc. etc.

What perspective?? Does it matter how many of his posts were 0.00 appraisals? Because a vast majority of posts were 0.00 appraisals, does that somehow make his banning better?

[Sigh!] Please re-read my earlier post which does NOT have any reference to his account being terminated. Thanks.

That's the problem here. Business is going to cease. You don't treat your membership this way and expect your forum to live long.

To be perfectly honest... many of his appraisals were PERFECTLY HONEST! Many people don't appraise names because many of the names people want appraised are GARBAGE (and its not a *bad* thing... they just ARE.) Dr.Who did give many positive appraisals, whether acknowledged or not. The only thing that distinguished his appraisals is that he actually took the time to post to so many of them... and many of those by and large ARE *GARBAGE*. I don't think that's a secret... its true!

Izopod, if I was somehow able to flip a switch in your head that compelled you to contribute to 85%-95% of the appraisal threads you read, I have to say you'd probably earn the self-same "reputation" for being "harsh". You'll have your favorites sprinkled throughout of course, but people would get squeemish at the reems of "honesty" you'd toss out. "Man, Izopod is tough", they'd say. If you only comment "positively" on things, I think that gives a BAD impression... much worst than a simple assessment. Someone once said that sometimes "no appraisal" is an appraisal of its own... I think a $0 appraisal or even a "reg fee" appraisal is still very important no matter how frequent. --As long as its honest.

There is a distinction between honesty and *ACCURACY* of course. The latter, in the eye of the beholder with regards to appraisals. While anyone can debate whether he should have been banned or not, in my opinion, I think both you and Nameslave are wrong to say that he was somehow making a "joke" out of the system just for contributing his opinion. It's not as if he was heckling and jeering people with derogatory comments (unless I missed them.) He just tossed out the number he felt a name was worth.

Criticizing people for that doesn't exactly encourage participation in the current format. If there is a better way to give appraisals, I'd certainly like to see both of you describe how it should be, and how people can strive to adhere to it on a regular basis (without destroying volume with amorphous and unwieldy considerations at every turn.)

So far all I've seen is a guy try to turn this place into a "Serious" domain community. CH/MC/DR apparently didn't understand that.

I think if you look at it. You have to decide. Do you want a place where you can sell to end users or do you want a "hobby" farm where we sell names to each other for a couple of bucks and a few laughs. Frankly I've been through the GD chatroom years and the Afternic free-for-all days, and I'm tired of it. I want a place that is all business. That doesn't mean we can't have fun. It just means we have to raise the bar some time, otherwise this forum will end up like all the rest. If you don't think so, then I guess to each his own....

Just my humble opinion

I'm doing a Signature Line Contract for NameGuy... It's his biz! Sounds like a good one as I've been pm'd several times regarding how it works...

I for one valued Dr Whos appraisals. It was just that it always involved a two step process.

If it was a .com I'd usually remove a (0).

If it was an info, I'd add two (00), and then add 50% and that was pretty close to actual sales prices.

He didn't seem like a bad guy to me. I got a kick out of his posts.
